I think I may be able to swing her indoors into allowing me to have a 46".

Any opinions on the Samsung Samsung LE46M87 - it seems to tik all the boxes as far as I can tell

Cheers

My brother has the 40" version, as do a few other people I know - cracking TV. I have a 40" F86 which is just superb but a tad more expensive.

Thanks for the help guys - Dave do you mean your 40" F86 is more expensive than the 46" I'm looking at - or more expensive than your brothers?

Cheers

Sorry - I meant like for like on the sizes. BUT, I think the 40" F86 is probably still a little more expensive than the 46" M87 as the F86 is still around the £1k mark (best price) which I guess you could get the M87 for as you can get the 40" version for around £700 now. Think the 46" F86 will set you back at least £1300 at the minute.

I got the 46" F86 at John Lewis for £1500 (price matched with Empire Direct). It's a fantastic TV. Well worth the extra money in my opinion.

I saw a side by side comparison between the F86 and M87 at John Lewis and the F86 blows it out of the water. Scrolling text (for example) is much clearer on the F86, and the picture just seemed more crisp and clear overall.

Best thing to do would be to go into a John Lewis store and look at the TVs in action. £1500 for a decent TV like this with a 5 year guarantee isn't a bad price.

Would agree with Anastasia here - I had originally budgeted a grand for a 42-46" screen, with the 46M87 at the top of my shortlist, however I was worried 46 was going to overpower my room. When is saw an F86 side by side with the M87 I was stunned by the difference and after a week of deliberation I plumped for a 40F86 and I haven't been disappointed - stunning picture from my 360, HDDVD, PS3 and HTPC.

Good luck with your decision:thumbs:

I though John Lewis didn't price match internet websites?

Empire Direct have stores so as long as there is one near where you are ordering from you are OK. I got the F86 Price Matched against Empire Direct aswell. Not sure if they have changed their policy since beginning of the year though.

We got our price match only a few weeks ago, so as far as I'm aware you should be OK.

Higher contrast and brightness, DNIE+ instead of DNIE, wider colour gamut.
