Saw something on CEEFAX last night that the BJD R2 DVD has been recalled due to a swear-word on the commentary breaking the BBFC's 15 rating...
Anyone know anymore about this?
First i've heard of it........

Moving to DVD and Movie Forum :)
Someone on these very forums (cannot remember who) queried this with the BBFC via email which brought it to there attention!
There was a thread all about it ages ago
I think it has been recalled and replaced with a modified version.
If you have trouble getting hold of it you can just import it from Australia.

From what I recall, the c-word was substituted with the word cow to enable the film to get a 15 certificate.
The DVD still had this substitution, but when you listened to the audio commentary, the c-word was still audible (I mean the word, rather than Hugh Grant...;))

The BBFC have very strange rules about rhe C-word.
The C-word has been spoken in several other 15 certificate films (a recent example is Carrie-Anne Moss is Memento). But the BBFC says the c-word is acceptable in 15 certificate films as long as it is spoken by a woman. If the c-word is spoken by a man as a derogatory term for a woman, it automatically makes the film an 18 certificate.
So a female character can call another female a "Colin Hunt" at 15 certificate, but a male character can only call a woman a "Colin Hunt" at 18 certificate.
Brigit Jones's Diary changed the word to "cow", to stay at 15 certificate.

Rubbish - you're talking like a c-word;)
Being John Malkovich, Withnail & I, Glengarry Glen Ross - all feature it spoken by men.
Again, edited by Gromit
It's all about the context the word is used in.
And it was yours truly that got into a bit of a debate with the BBFC over their daft policies.
As I predicted the BBFC didn't enforce the recall before Xmas but let Columbia sell the disc to everyone before telling them to recall and repress (it's all a bit academic now - seeing as just about everyone who wants it has already got it).
Just goes to show that the bottom line rules - like there was any doubt!
If anyone wonders I am certainly not pro-censorship but I wanted the BBFC to explain to me why they failed to follow up and enforce their ruling in this case. The rather pointless recall of the dvd was the result.

Surely that's the front bottom line? :D
I also heard something about it being recalled a couple of weeks ago from Driller Killer but I'm not sure where he heard it from.

There was another modification to the script, many moons ago when it was advertised on the tele', (now setting the scene) in bed with "him" the 'phone rings and she reels off a line and then says hello to one of her parents, though in the video i bought the script changed and she says hello to the other parent. Am i right oh go on go on go on.

yeap it was recalled, as some smart arse (from here) sent an email to the BBFC asking why the "C word" was allowed during the commentary, but not during the film, what a FOOL!! it didn`t upset him, so why tell them?
And why is it that the "C word" is said to be the worst swear word? I can name a LOT more, but can`t on here, and some would make a nun faint! :D

because I wanted an explination that's why!
It annoys me that they would go to great lengths to enforce a change such as this for the cinema and then not bother to follow it up for subsequent releases on other formats. I was merely pointing out to the BBFC how flawed their clasification system is. That's all.
It hasnt been recalled yet, despite the BBC carrying the story

The BBFC's reasoning is that the word is particularly offensive to many women, with its misogynistic overtones. And women make up a large part of the target audience for <i>Bridget Jones's Diary</i> and <i>Angel Eyes</i>, the two films so far cut under this ruling. <i>Pollock</i> has been given an 18 solely because of the aggressive use of the word (by Jackson Pollock to his wife Lee Krasner), twice in one scene.
This ruling dates from when the BBFC last revised their guidelines: they relaxed what they allowed at 18, while tightening up on what they passed at lower categories. (Casual drug use is also more likely to get an 18 nowadays.)
Several films listed in this thread predate the ruling change, but they might well run into problems if they were resubmitted in the near future. I'm waiting to see what might happen if <i>An Officer and a Gentleman</i> were resubmitted as it also contains an agressive C-word, uttered by Richard Gere to a female character. That's been a 15 since 1982, but will it have to be an 18 now? And will all the 15-cert videos have to be removed? (Another BBFC rule is not to allow differently-certified versions of the same film to be on sale as it confuses the public - which I can understand.)

Can anyone tell me at which point this occurs (ie Time Index) - I've promised to find out for a friend so he can play the 'correct' part of the commentary when his great Aunt comes round for tea.
Thanks.
