:help:Hello, I'm switching from a T-mobile contract to Vodafone next week. My Nokia 6230i was bought at Carfone Warehouse as an upgrade.

At the moment I can use any network SIM in it, but T-mobile say the phone will be locked when my contract ends on Mon.

Will I lose the data saved on the phone when they lock it? (eg numbers, info in organiser, messages, etc). If so, is there any way avoid this?

Thanks!;)

They told my mate this also.
From what I know, a phone cannot be locked over the air, only physically. Presumably they tell you this as a scare tactic but also to cover their bum incase the phone is locked to their network.

In the mean time, go to mobyko.com and register there. This will let you backup some if no all of your details and makes it a skoosh to change to a new phone!

unlock it yourself using one of many free DCT4 unlocking solutions online.

you shouldnt lose any data stored on the phone. you could always move pictures/music etc onto the memory card to be sure.

And ensure no data is on your Sim....
