Well, February is looking a bit pants at the moment.

I've seen Ghost World and already got In The Mood For Love (not CC).

So what else is there being released next month that's worth getting?

Could be an ideal time to pay for some older titles :)

Ono A.I. is March :)

(although I hope it's delivered in February)

Peter Pan - is it a 2 disc Disney special or a bare bones affair?

Got Robocop CC.

February truly is grim then :(

Nothing in February?

Planet of the Apes (18th FEB)
Jurassic Park III (11th FEB)
A Knights Tale (25th FEB)
Thirteen Days (4th FEB)
Dracula 2001 (4th FEB)
The Legend of Bagger Vance (11th FEB)
The Fast & The Furious (11th FEB)
The Watcher (18th FEB)
The Claim (4th FEB)
The Mexican (4th FEB)

Maybe not all to everybody's tastes, just a list of titles I've put together for the members of our DVD club at work. That's not including any back catalogue stuff.

It is back catalogue to me!! I've had most of those discs on R1 for ages!

BTW: Dracula, The Mexican and (in particular) The Watcher are absolute rubbish IMHO.

My only February puchase will be:

Wild strawberries (Criterion)

... which makes it probably the first month since I bought my DVD player in which I have only bought one disk. Mind you, post-Christmas debt probably accounts for that!

Various replies to comments above:-

We buy R2 only - there's plenty of stuff available and people are generally happy. (I've only got an R2 player and I'm not of the "can't wait another 2 months" brigade, although I can see the advantages of R1.)

We have a vote, pool our money and buy about 5 or 6 discs per month. Effectively, we get to watch about 60-odd discs a year for £130 and get to keep about 7 or 8 of the discs each.

Rob sorry mate but I'm with Ono on this - had most of those discs last year (the one's I wanted anyway). As I'm sure you're aware, there are many other reasons for getting R1 discs other than the earlier release.

So, where does your club watch the films? At each other's house or is there a club room?

Noel - not too fussed about Portishead but will definitely look for more info on these:

R2 Dekalog Part 1-5 (Kieslowski)
R2 Dekalog Part 6-10 (Kieslowski)
R2 The Emperor and the Assassin (Chen Kaige)

Was aware of the Fire Walk with Me release but still not too sure whether to go for it yet. Just can't decide.

The Usual Suspects S.E. is coming out as well I think.

Ghost World arrived from ********* today, so the only other titles that I'm looking at in February are The Usual Suspects and possibly In the Mood for Love CC. A dreadful month by all accounts.

Mind you, I only have AI on order for March, but will probably pick up Rashomon as well.

It's going to be April/May when the big titles come out.

Gromit:

It's not a club as in we all get together and watch the film. Everybody takes a film home when they want and watches it individually.

It's just a way of seeing more DVDs for less cost. The fact that you can take a DVD home for a week or so, watch it and then have time to watch all the extras if you want beats the hell out of a standard rental outlet.

Plus the nominations, voting, sharing out and subsequent arguments are great fun. I've even offered "Argumentative Membership" to people who haven't got a DVD player but want to wade into the intense debates/arguments!:)

Of coure, we are not "renting" the DVDs, it's just a case of buying a load and then all members watch as and when they want. As I said earlier, you also get to keep some of the films. I've done alright this "phase" as I got to keep "Bedazzled", "Almost Famous" and "Cast Away", but also had to take "The Cell" for my sins!

Well, RoboBox certainly seems to be the biggest release, but I'm also looking forward to the series of Woody Allen titles such as Mighty Aphrodite and Bullets over Broadway coming out on R2 at the beginning of the month.

I thought this was due for April?

I've not looked at the February schedules closely yet, but the R1 titles that stick out in my mind are the already-mentioned Sleuth and Larry Sanders S1, as well as Klute. I'll probably only end up going for Sanders though (and is it me or do most retailers not have this up for pre-order yet?)

Thanks for that, I didn't know they are being released. Do you know if they're going to be anamorphic?
