View Full Version : [XBox360] Guitar Hero III Tournament - Any Ideas/Interest?

An idea for a tournament was banded about this morning and got me thinking about starting one and hoping there'd be enough interest. Been mulling over ideas and have come up with the following formats:

Pro Face-off Knockout Competition

4 simultaneously running stages for each of the difficulties, Easy, Medium, Hard and Expert. The early rounds would be a best-of-3, semi-final being best-of-5 and the final best-of-7.
<strike>At the end of the tournament, there would be a playoff between the 4 winners to find an overall champion.</strike>

or....

Pro Face-off League

Again, 4 simultaneously running leagues for each of the difficulties with everyone playing each other twice (Home and Away fixture). Each fixture would consist of 2 halves with each half being a best-of-3 game. If a player wins they get 3 points, if each player wins a half it'll be a draw and will get 1 point each.
<strike>Like the Knockout Comp, there would be a playoff at the end to find an overall champion.</strike>

<strike>...or maybe a just one big league with all difficulties?</strike>

Any more ideas and who'd be up for it?

EDIT: interested parties

I guess either would work, but I don't really see the point in the difficulties playing each other at the end. I know it's possible, but it doesn't really prove anything, does it?

It was just a thought I had to have the winners play each other for a laugh but that's the whole point of this thread, getting peoples ideas and thoughts.

I'd be up for this. Like the sound of the first option, although it'll be dependant on people being honest about their skill levels, not just puttin' their name down for Easy even though they're an Expert rock god, like me. :p

Random thoughts while I evade work..

No battle mode!

Can you only play in one difficultly band? I'd have a tough decision between Hard and Expert. Doing well in expert = massive bragging rights, but more risk of pwnage (especially if certain weak spots are exploited for massive damage).

Do the other multiplayer modes even out the scoring if the two players select differing levels? I seem to remember using this feature on GH I / GH II in our office ladder.

I assume the tournament feature of guitarhero.com is for officially run things only?

Will think more.. but I'm well up for this, until I get all nervous like I used to with Toca 3 championships here!

No battle mode!

The tournament/league will be Pro Face-off which both players will have to use the same difficultly which now thinking about it, the 'end of tournament' face off is out of the question...and the one big league.

Players will only be able to play in one difficulty band, yes. I'm quite tempted to play at Expert but I'm more comfortable at Hard

Seems that way and I don't think there's options to set it private. I've got a test site setup ready anyway.

I'd be up for this - although deciding which difficulty level is a difficult one. I'm good at medium, but pretty bobbins at hard.

I'm rubbish at hard, so I wouldn't be playing!

Up for a game at some point though

I'd be up for that even though I'm poop :) Can do "easy" no problem and I've done 80% of "medium" but can only 3* the songs. Suppose I'd go for "medium" just for a bit more of a challenge.

I'd be up for this. How do we go about choosing the songs?

I'm not sure yet. Possibly tournament = randomly chosen songs. In the League, as it's the best-of-3, each player picks a song.

I'd be up for this on expert. I had a great game last night where someone was trying to show off to his friend, but became increasingly frustrated (and insulting) as he got trounced

i'd be up for having a crack at medium.

how about seasons with promotion and relegation to the next levels to stop the experts mullering everyone.

Would be interested in this. Wouldn't know what difficulty to play tho, can 100% the majority of Medium but still haven't got through any of the Big In Japan set on Hard. But then Face-Off doesn't just stop the song when you're doing crap so maybe I'll try Hard. Hate it when players that have completed Expert enter the Medium tournaments on Guitarhero.com

I've only got it today like but am a GH II veteran (of sorts)
You can put me down for it too, once I get a rattle through a lot fo the songs... :)

kanedaa

i'll play. if we can only choose one difficulty I'll play on Hard, but if we can do two I wouldn't mind playing in the Expert category as well.

Missed this thread... I'll definitely be up for it, but like others have said, I'm not sure what difficulty to do... I'm good at Medium, not so good at Hard and suck donkeys willy at Expert.

On another forum I frequent, we have a song of the week competition, where you enter your 'top two levels'' scores with points being tallied up every week... works quite well and keeps interest going..
