Reports suggest there's no real performance increase under XP in the new patch, though it may require a driver update to get the best out of it.
I've just had my 8800GTS 640mb g80 superclocked card exchanged for a standard 8800GTS 512mb g92 card (via EVGA's step-up program) and I'm getting 10-15fps more in Crysis. It's now running at an average of 45fps in 1280x960 High detail, no AA, compared with about 30fps on the old card. I'm very happy because it's almost always over 30fps now. :)

Too many MP fixes. Crysis MP is really not good. But good that they are working to improve it. I'd imagine all the SLI setup players are pretty happy about the patch!
Worth looking at the updated configs various people have written for improved performance:

For example
Also some of the mods that are out now:

Sorry to drag this slightly off topic; I'm running a 320MB GTS because I only game at 1280x1024, 1440x900 or 1280x720 due to screen size limitations. In every game except Crysis I get great performance, although using a tweaked config and some overclocking nets me an average of about 30-35fps in Crysis with mainly high settings at 1280x1024 which while playable by my standards, does give me that upgrade itch. I was tempted by the 8800GT but the new GTS 512MB looks to be a tangible upgrade as far as Crysis is concerned. However I don't really want to upgrade for one game which, while good, isn't blowing my socks off tbh. Any other games you noticed big differences on? CoD4 plays perfectly atm, Warcraft hardly needs any gfx grunt anyway and Gears runs as perfectly as I could ask. Any info or feedback you could give me across the board would be great, thanks. :)
OT: A number of people are reporting only minimal gains in XP, some no gains at all even. I do have Vista 64 on a dual boot so I might try it on that and see if it nets any really decent gains. And to echo the above post, pfft Crysis multiplayer isn't going to set the world alight by any stretch of the imagination.
Oh also worth mention there is a new set of Omega drivers out for both Nvidia and ATI cards: http://www.omegadrivers.net/
Some of you will mock modded drivers, but some of you might remember that Omega really were a viable alternative to the official drivers back in the day. I've had nothing but a good experience with this latest Nvidia set so far so I would recommend you try them out if you get the chance. :)

Most of the other games I was playing ran really well with my old superclocked 640mb 8800GTS - COD4, Stalker, Oblivion, etc. Crysis was the only game to really, really push it.
Looking at the benchmarks in the various reviews, it looks like the new GTS is at least 30% faster than the old one. That makes a huge difference in getting framerates up above 30fps on the more demanding games. Plus I've not overclocked it yet, and according to reports it's a very overclockable card.

Thanks for the reply! I'm gonna have to look into power consumption figures because I'm only on a 400w PSU (which is pretty decent as it's a proper Shuttle one) but I would guess if its the die shrink version it might even consume less power than the original GTS. Argh, and I wanted to knock PC upgrades on the head for this year and concentrate on the consoles. :-/
Thanks again. :)

Because it's clocked higher the new GTS draws MORE power than the old one. 146 Watts vs 108. A good quality 500 watt PSU or higher is recommended.

I normally clock mine to 600MHz core anyway and 1800-1900MHz effective memory which would probably bump the draw up quite substantially, probably to a similar level. With the extra shaders I should get better performance per clock anyway and it will still leave some headroom for overclocking with my E6400 @ 3.2GHz. Will look into it more, again thank you for your help and my apologies for derailing the thread further.
