I read somewhere the other day that Ridley Scott is discussing ALIEN 5 as a possibility for his next project. I hope to god that if anyone carries out the fifth film it is him.

The first one - amazing.:D
The second - almost as amazing.:D
The third - bit boring.
The fourth - oh dear, what happened.:brickwall

Hmmmmm...would agree if it didn't seem like Ridley is returning back to his days of making tv commercials, except ones that last 2 hours (Gladiator, Black Hawk, Hannibal...).

Also reckon they should give the Alien vs Predator idea a go. The spaceship where the eggs were found in Alien was supposed to belong to a race that was at war with another race, who created the Aliens as a form of biological warfare. So what if this 'other' race was the Predators, who created the Aliens not just as a weapon but also as sport? (ie. introduce a queen alien to a random planet, sit back & wait, and in a few days you have the ultimate safari)

Sounds like a winner to me.

that is a good point, enjoyed gladiator, but have not seen Black Hawk Down yet though. Hannibal was just a joke.

Haven't seen Black Hawk Down but I thought Gladiator was excellent and Hannibal was far from a joke. It was superbly shot, and the film was let down by the terrible novel it was based on - can't blame Scott. He did try to improve the story by changing the ending but nothing was going to save it.

I think bringing Ridley back is a good idea, but they should do away with sequels and make PREQUELS! Make a prequel for the first film; make a prequel for the second film (in two parts: 1) something major (all out action) happens during the 57 years Ripley is asleep; and 2) what happens to the people on LV426. Let see them defend themselves for dear life - and at least it can't be called typical hollywood, because we know they all die bar one.

Don't like the Alien/Predator idea - never had. Leave that in the comics.

If you have seen Aliens SE, the colony on LV426 find the ship/eggs within the first 20 mins of the film, and then take alien back to the colony.

The 57 years while ripley is asleep would be interesting, although ripley wouldn't have much of a part and she is much a part of the films as the aliens.

.....and how did all those eggs last the 57 years between films?

Of course I've seen Aliens SE! :D My sig must've passed you by! ;)

What I would want to see is what happens to Lydecker and Simpson the colony officer. Newt tells Ripley the kids used to play in the air ducts. Some great action sequences are to be had with the kids being chased in the air ducts and how the surving colonists sealed themselves in only to be over run. Also, how do they investigate the alien eggs? We see the facehuggers in the examination tubes in the film - so what did they find out?

The character of Ripley disappeared in Alien 4 yet that piece of garbage got made. Admittedly, it is Weaver who would want to be a part of the film - but if she was exec producing maybe she would settle for that.

The colonists are the first people to visit the alien ship since Kane, Dallas and Lambert in number one - or so we are led to believe!

Another possible sequel (dreaded word!) could be a re-imagining ( :) ) of the sequel to Aliens where Hicks survives as does Newt. But anything to bring back Hudson and Vasquez is okay in my book.

Sorry - left my powers of observation at home today

Agreed, the second film did have a wicked cast.

Going back to other races, it would be cool to find out how the 'pilot' of the ship with the eggs in(the large creature with big hole in chest!), and his race found the aliens in the first place

That would be interesting - maybe it could be linked back to Lucas' Galaxy Far Far Away!

It would make for an interesting film, but I wonder whether people would go to see a film purely based on aliens versus aliens without any human interaction? It would be new if nothing else and with the ongoing improvement of CGI you never know.

anyone read William Gibson's script for part 3? It was so much better, it had a whole new take on the thing. The alien could also infect with a virus. Sounds weird and contradictory but in context worked quite well. Ripley dies right at the start though, so I guess that's why they didn't use it.

If I could make alien 5 I'd make it with Ripley going back to earth with Winona Ryder and Ripley being the Alien and killing all the humans off. it would make it interesting, and carry on from the underrated Resurrection film which suggested her loyalties as being ambiguously torn between human and alien.

I thought parts 3 and 4 were both awful, and I think many people have given them more weight than they deserve because of the reputations of the directors involved. I hope they bury the franchise NOW.

I'd also like to mention that I think Hannibal is Ridley's best film, with Alien and Blade Runner just behind.

From Dark Horizons:

Ridley Scott commented last week he's been considering a fifth "Alien" film as one of his next projects:

"I'm seriously mulling it over. I think it would be a lot of fun, but the most important thing is to get the story right". Scott however isn't keen on the 'aliens infest Earth' idea saying "Earth would be interesting, and there is talk about it" in a rather bored tone, rather he'd like to explore the idea of their origins: "I say we should go back to where the alien creatures were first found and explain how they were created. No one has ever explained why. I always figured that a battleship carrying bio-mechanical organisms that could be weapons was sent into space with some space jockey who didn't last long"

I think whatever the story it will be vital to have a director of some standing, not just a good director, who could actually stand up to Fox and producers Giler and Hill (and indeed Sigourney Weaver). There can't be many here who doubt the creative skills of Fincher and Jeunet, but, certainly at the time when they made Alien 3 and Resurrection, they had zero clout to battle any arguments with the studio.

If they have to make another I think Ridley Scott would be probably the best you could hope for.

Well, the film is deservably under-rated! ;)

Second, the question of where her loyalties lie should have never been in question because she should have never become what she became. It was an awful idea to begin with and they shouldn't continue with it.

It's good to see Ridley Scott toying with the idea of a prequel/backstory, this sounds ver interesting. :)
