Just been reading that Warner (!) will be handling the R2 DVD - typical, the only company worse at handling DVDs than EiV!!

Also, the DVD is very likely to be a 3 disc set throughout the regions - the should be interesting getting 3 discs into a snapper case!

Why do you say that?? Granted not a lot of people like Snappers and they don't put a picture on the front of the disc but i actually think they do a lot for the R2 market.

The only improvement they could make is to start issueing dts releases.

RE: LOTR, i think it's going to be one of those close calls where we have to wait right up until release before we can say for sure which'll be the best region.

Still haven't seen the film yet.

They really need to start those DTS tracks very soon (same applies to Paramount who are even worse than Warner on that front). But, I just find purchasing Warner discs to be uninspiring. Those snappers are just terrible!! Would much rather have a white amaray than one of those pieces of poo!

I will be purchasing the R1 Infinifilm release (hopefully) which eliminates these probs!

Still haven't seen it myself yet - will probably just get the DVD instead as I can't be bothered spending £10 to go see it (£2 return bus fare, £4 entrance and £4 on popcorn/drink)

I sympathise with you there my friend. In the same boat. It'll cost me £7 just to get to a decent cinema. I really wanna see this though. But i've reasoned with myself if i miss it this time round there's still another two to look forward to.

And i quite like them! The SE's in digi packs seems to make thewm more special for some reason!

Err, like?

In addition to using snappers the extras are often pants, back catalogue material is slapped on with no regard for quality (e.g. Batman series), they insist on static menus with poor design, they love flippers (yes I include film on one side and extras on the other in this or in many cases film on one side and extras on both, especially where they use a menu that gives little indication as to which side the extra is on until you try it - but most important of all is by doing flippers they tend not to use dual-layer which reduces the potential picture quality - Superman excepted), and they ignore sequels when they do occasionally remaster back-catalogue material (very rare, but e.g. Superman vs Superman II  ).

EIV?... generally the same quality content as the R1 equivalents, the only down side is the 'tabloid' style to the back of the cases in R2... so what? Content is great (consider that Blade is one of the best DVDs ever), it's Amaray, and the cover is far easier to live with than scratch-tastic snappers.

It's really going to be crap if Warner do the DVDs. The extras will be on the poor quality side (many Warner extras seem to just be promotional stuff with no real information - e.g. The Matrix), and the chance of us getting longer cuts is probably going to be reduced by this. At least I can get an Amaray in R4 though.

damn :(

OK, Warners are by no means the best but i find the fact they don't allow rental pricing and sell a lot of there older/classic films at £12.99 or less pretty commendable.

Warner may be responsible for the disc over here, and i think it's just distribution??, but at least New Line will be doing the groundwork, and i imagine the R2 will be a direct copy, except for maybe inferior packaging, and at the worst dropping commentaries, and the DTS. (!) But It'll be a big title, and seeing how DVD has taken off for real now, and i think WB will have some idea of what we want.

At least we'll get a kick ass R1 disc... which being NEw Line, should also have some gorgeous packaging! :D

anyway... why should people loathe Snappers so much?? i know Keep Cases are better, but Snappers do mean a cheaper price, and so long as you get it in the post in good condition, it really isn't difficult to maintain it. I know people on here, who refuse to even buy a title if it's in a snapper!!!, BTW -- WB have produced some truly excellent R1 discs!!

but Jewel Case DVDs, now they're crap!!!

I take it you haven't seen Warner's disc of "North By Northwest", then?

Not only including one of the best transfers i've ever seen on DVD, but on a film nearly 50 years old to boot.
