sorry if this is in the wrong forum it kinda falls between gaming and computing i guess.

Anyway i bought a Linksys WGA54G Wireless G Game Adapter a while back with the intention of using it on my original xbox but never got round to it. Now i've got a 360 and i was thinking of signing up for Live, but instead of paying £50 for an official wireless bridge i wondered if i'd be able to use this? and if there are any known problems in doing so?

I've checked a few sites out and most say its compatible but there are some people saying they've had problems with IP's etc as well as issues with lag on Live. Is there anyone here who uses one of these or has experience with them and can give me some advice? I don't really wanna spend £50 on an official bridge + £40 on Live if this will do the job as i still need to buy a wireless router and the costs soon adding up!

just to let you know i don't know a whole lot about networks, enough to get by just but thats about it, so please keep the answers simple lol :D

also just out of interest does anyone know of any good routers around £40 that i can use with this adapter? I've been looking at Linksys WRT54GL (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=NW-052-LS&groupid=46&catid=1014&subcat=) and the Netgear KWGR614 (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=NW-123-NG&groupid=46&catid=1014&subcat=) but i dunno whether i'd be best sticking with the linksys since the adapter is also made by them.

cheers in advance

I too know nothing about networks. My brother had a spare one of these so I tried it out, plugged it into the PC to set it up, then plugged it into the 360 and it worked straight away. I'm using the BT Homehub.

I should also mention that I only started using it when the Live troubles all started, so I'm not sure if the connection trouble I was having is to do with this. For the past couple of days it's been completely fine though.

cheers :D, sounds like its working ok, least its compatible. Guess i'll just get a router and give it a go, hopefully it'll just be a case of plugging it in and not having to mess about with the settings too much. Someone on another forums mentioned you get a month free when you sign up to Live so at least that'll give me time to sort it out if there is a problem.

Just in case anyone is as thick as me....I've had a Squeezebox 3 (wireless mp3 streamer) sat on top of my 360 for 18 months...it's taken me until today to realise I can use it as a wireless bridge, eg plug the 360 into it via cat5 and get a connection to my router on the other side of the room.

You do get a month Gold for free but also you can do everything using Silver apart from online gaming. So you can get it all working etc... before comitting to the 12 month sign up.
