Anyone know if or when the Office is out on DVD?

There was a post up on here before Xmas reporting a rumour that It'll be out around August/Sept, I think.

Don't know how true it is but I remember being convinced.

PS. for good new comedy, Black Books is out in Feb.

I was the one who said that and yes, probably at the end of the year to coincide with the 2nd series.

I am led to believe this is scheduled for an October release

August, September, October...

Somebody at the 'BBC DVD department' needs a serious kick up the arse.

Why does it take them so long to develop their DVDs? No doubt it'll come out on VHS within the next few months!

Easy cowboy. To the best of my knowledge there has not been an official realease announced for the Office and until there is I beleive aunty can shift the date as much as she likes. This would be true of any other distributor too and I really do not think it's fair to judge them just because a rumour or 'insider' knowledge a site like this affords you happens to chop-and-change.

As for aunty not releasing titles sooner - well there's only so much that can be done by a handful of people that are making DVDs for the rest of the world as well as the UK. In addition there's the whole deal of purchasing the distribution rights from the producers (not necessarily the BBC). I believe that such purchases are seldom made until the distributor knows whether they've got a winner on their hands, which seems wise to me, at least as far as TV titles are concerned. I therefore imagine that in the case of the Office a deal didn't happen until close to the end of the first series (when the success of the series first became evident) by which time the DVD department's production schedule was probably booked up with other titles.
