First digital camera Fuji or Sony?

I am thinking of getting either a Fuji or a Sony compact camera (this will be my first one). I have three questions:

1. Which is better, the Fuji 'A' range or 'F' range

2. What is the image quality like on the Fuji film A920

I just want crisp sharp pictures for social events and holidays
