View Full Version : More music from Almost famous
Over the years when a soundtrack has sold a lot of copies the record companies tend to bring out a "More Music from ....." soundtrack. So what I thought was what would be on "More music from Almost Famous" if you were to pick the tracks. A couple for me would be:
One of the other Stillwater songs
Led Zep - Stairway to Heaven
I know some of you like the soundtrack so let's have your view
Jon
TBH i'm a bit clueless when it comes to the music of this era. I would buy it purely to educate myself. However i am familiar with one cracking song and one i would def like to see on the 2nd soundtrack is 'Free Bird' Lynard Skynard.
Just out of curiosity is the Almost Famous soundtrack any good?. I can't get enough of the Stillwater CD that came with the Bootleg DVD.
I agree with you there, Freebird is a classic.
As for the cd, it is very good. Worth every penny.

I'd like to see Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters by Elton John, but I don't see the studios releasing a 'more music from' CD. To be honest, I can't imagine that the CD sold as many copies as, say, Gladiator or Bridget Jones's Diary, simply because it's pretty much a compilation of old songs. Also, Almost Famous was not a smash hit. It was fairly well received by critics and adored by a lot of people, but even though it won an Oscar it didn't do enough business to justify a 'more music from' CD. Just my two cents. Oh, and there's not a great deal that can be put on it anyway. Stairway to Heaven is out of the question, as Dreamworks couldn't even acquire the rights to use it in the film. Apart from aforementioned Elton John song and the Chipmunks, I can only see the other Stillwater tracks making it onto another CD, plus of course Nancy Willson's fabulous score. But, seeing as there is already a Stillwater CD out there (fans of the movie should own the new DVD anyway), perhaps Dreamworks would do better to just release this score on its own? But then again, it seemed kinda repetative to my ear, and certainly not interesting enough to fill a CD. So, I guess what I'm saying is, I'm happy with what music from Almost Famous IS out there.

Talk about pouring cold water on a thread! I think what JonBoy is asking for is a conjectural discussion of likely songs, not the actual commercial possibilities of a release :)
I do agree with Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters though - ace song!
Talking about music from that era that would sound good on a soundtrack, how about:
Mott the Hoople - All the young dudes or Roll away the stone
Roxy Music - Street life
Yes - Tales from Topographic Oceans (only joking!!)

The intro/outro of 'Jungleland' by Bruce Springsteen.
When I first watched 'Almost Famous' I thought on hearing the first few notes for 'Tiny Dancer' that it was going to be the epic Brooce song.
The thread was not meant to be about songs that Dreamworks can acquire the rights to. It was simply to hear a range of views from people who liked the soundtrack and /or film on the topic of what songs would you want to have on a cd.
