Well, just forked out over £11 when I collected my package of three DVDs from the sorting office. Included in this was £3.85 charge from Consignia. Has this gone up? Seems extortionate!

Hadn't ordered from Amazon in quite a while, and I don't think I will be again. Great service and everything, but getting clobbered for customs etc. every time does tend to put you off.

Yep, by all accounts it's gone up and it's massively taking the ****.

Ooh I knoooooow!

T'other day I got clobbered £6.something in PO charges on a single (admittedly expensive :/ ) DVD, to bring the customs charge to a ridiculous £19

As books are zero rated over here, am I likely to be clobbered for customs if I buy it from Amazon.com. There is a book coming out in April and the british publishers say they are not printing it.

Books are zero-rated for customs duty, so you do not get charged customs for them. Have been ordering plenty of books from Amazon.com over the past years without any probs. DVDs on the other hand........

Hope that helps

Paul.

Yes £3.85 is Consignias new "admin" fee. It used to be £1.20 before consignia.

Amazon.com packages tend to get hit by customs now that they don't ship only via Europe, instead they ship via many non-EU countries.

hate to be the bearer of BAD NEWS but as REVENUE PROTECTION are about the only department within ROYAL MAIL that seem to be getting extra staff at the moment those nasty customs charges are going to get enforced more and more nowadays. ( those "my postie didnt bother to collect the money" threads will start to become a thing of the past!)

any comments from the many Consignia staff lurking the forum?
