It's good fun, with a dreadful romantic subplot, but some hysterically overblown action scenes more than make up for that. Well worth watching, although I suspect its appeal would fade eventually...
Fair enough - Cheers

Its a difficult film to describe properly. I guess the closest I could come would be to describe it as the Umbrellas of Cherbourg meets the Matrix. It borrows a lot from other films and mixes a lot of genres together. Im not sure that it actually works - one of the reasons Im keen to see it again is to make up my mind about whether I really like this film or not. Its similar in some respects to Moulin Rouge in that it has an enormous amount of energy and is completely different from anything else released last year. If youve not seen it I would recommend renting first before buying - just in case its not to your taste.

Here's the review that we put in our programme for Exeter Uni's Cinema Society:
Tears of the Black Tiger
If you’re looking for an unconventional concept behind it, Tears of the Black Tiger is the film for you! It’s a western without the wild-west, it is actually set in Thailand. This means that the film can mix sumptuous locations and songs with an old-style cowboy story. It is an ultra violent tale following the titular cowboy, the Black Tiger, and his love affair with a rich girl who is already engaged to a respectable lad. This a creates conflict with the cowboy gang and his best friend: stories don’t get more old fashioned that that! The film is bursting with vibrant colours – the blood seems to be purple at times – and there’s some great shoot outs that would test even John Wayne’s abilities with a gun. Not to be missed by anyone of even a passing interest in Westerns – two very enthusiastic thumbs up, fine holiday fun!
