There's a new offer on site this morning. 3 for 2 on both HD formats.

43 HD DVD titles :nono: and 138 for Blu-Ray.

Blu-Ray (http://www.thedvdforums.com/affiliatelink.php?localaffiliateid=10&url=http://www.hmv.co.uk/hmvweb/specialOffers.do?ctx=97;10;-1;-1&code=07WXW)

HD DVD (http://www.thedvdforums.com/affiliatelink.php?localaffiliateid=10&url=http://www.hmv.co.uk/hmvweb/specialOffers.do?ctx=-1;13;-1;-1&pGroupID=13&pGenreID=-1&pTertiaryID=-1&primaryID=13&secondaryID=-1&tertiaryID=-1)

That's a discussion for the in-store offer, my thread is for the web offer. Might be the same discs but usually cheaper to buy them online.

What is so depressing is that there are only 43 titles on HD-DVD and they are mostly ****.

I think this looks like a push by the Blu-ray companies as a number of companies are offering nearly the same items at 3 for 2 including Zavvi, Play.com (http://www.thedvdforums.com/affiliatelink.php?localaffiliateid=2) and Amazon.co.uk (http://www.thedvdforums.com/affiliatelink.php?localaffiliateid=8).

You might be right. As I understand it, the majority of movie studios are now behind the HD-DVD format due to the lower costs of producing HD-DVDs.

However, here in the UK at least, Blu-Ray has a greater installed user base than HD-DVD, so that is probably why there is such a paltry offering of HD-DVDs available.

Nothing from either camp jumped out for me in those links :(

Well you've misunderstood in that case, the majority of studios are behind Blu-ray. Of the major studios (9) all support blu-ray except Universal. In september Paramount and Dreamworks accepted a deal to cease the production of BD titles for 18 months. Also the costs are not significantly different except for very small runs (because the initial master disc is cheaper for HD DVD IIRC)

BD has a larger installed base (than HD DVD) here but the same is true for every country that's been reported on. In fact HD DVD is doing best in the US and Spain (IIRC) and even there it's significantly behind

I imagine why the situation for HD DVD owners here is so bad because a lot of them will be importing titles from the US

Nothing from either camp jumped out for me in those links

There are a few maybes (for me) but there not going to discount titles that are wildly popular already. OTOH the Pirates and spiderman films are loved by a lot of people (just not me)

well i plumped for HD Batman Begins, Blazing Saddles and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. 12 quid each aint too bad. Could of done with a bigger choice though.

I imagine why the situation for HD DVD owners here is so bad because a lot of them will be importing titles from the US Because we can rely on every disc being region free and theyre a damn sight cheaper. I think your post would of been better in the fanboy thread in the proper forum.

To be fair there was not a lot incorrect about what he psoted.

And what part of my post are you attempting to contradict with that statement?

Thanks Baz, I guess some people don't want to hear the truth or let others here it.

Not sure I read anything fanboyish either....There are certainly a few more titles instore that aren't in the online offer (Spidey trilogy, POTC 3, Close Encounters) & vice versa. Hostel 1 & 2 and maybe Usual Suspects would be a reasonable purchase.

well lets see
The fact that you go on about the major studios supporint BR
You pointing out that BR has a larger installed base
The point about things being so bad for HD here even though theyre not since HD has the flexibility to go get them cheaper elsewhere without worry, a fact you convenienty ignore in your rush to make out HD is bad here.

99% of your post goes on about how BR has a better situation than HD and in a bargain thread to boot. So i class that as a fanboy post.

I own both btw and realise theres a whole forum for BR fans to go bang their drum in at the top of the page.

No theres nothing wrong with the post but you miss the other side of the story out completely. Youd make a good tabloid journalist :)

ANyway i wont post anymore in here, its a bargain thread and not some place for soapboxes of either sides. But thanks to the OP anyway :)

Thanks for the heads up on the HD titles, everywhere else mentioned by other posters are only doing 3 for 2 on Bluray discs. This is the first 3 for 2 on HD i've seen

Although I do have quite a few I've purchased for a few pence less (even with the discount) from the USA, im sure I can find another 3 to add to my collection (any excuse!)

Did you not read the post I quoted? All I did was correct some of the misinformation in that post, nothing fanboyish there. Everything I said was true, I don't see why you'd have a problem with someone pointing out mistakes or misunderstandings in another post? Do you want people to believe the mistakes in floops post? How does that help anyone?

In the context of this thread, floops post and me pointing out the errors are perfectly fine. That would have been the end of it but for some reason you want to come in here pointing fingers. I can't see any legitimate motive for doing that,

dude SHUT UP!!!

Yes, we know you have the horn for Blu-Ray - for the love of god stop invading every thread on the forums with this mindless HD war drivel. If it were down to me I would of kicked you to the kerb by now for keep doing this.

Keep the discussion in the relevant thread.

(for the record, I have both - love them equally)

Was there any need for that? Every thread? Talk about exaggerate! Why be a troll?

All I did was point out a misunderstanding from one person, if you don't care so much why are you so bothered? Why were you so bothered that wilson's post wasn't enough of a pointless attack? I'd understand if I'd said something false or was trying to be unhelpful but I only did what most people do when there's confusion about a product.

Anyone order online and had their order shipped?

I ordered on the 4th of December and it's not shipped. Status seems to be "Ready to ship" and has been for a couple of days :(

I am in exactly the same position:order placed 4/12/07 and simply states ready to ship.

Phoned up the "customer service" department to be told warehouse delay, so I asked the staff member for them to put me through to a supervisor to explain what "warehouse delay" meant and when the order would be shipped.

She refused on no less than six occasions to put me through to a supervisor so I was forced to phone again, speak to another "customer service" member who then put me through to a supervisor who said the order should be going out within 24 hrs.

Due to their previous outright refusal to pass me onto a supervisor and the fact that all told, this simple enquiry took the best part of 40 minutes, I have asked for a copy of the recording/transcript of the conversation so they can see just how shabbily I as a customer was treated.

Whats the point of a customer service person who has no more interest in you than whats on the screen ? obviously being an internet order I have access to that info anyway so why would I want to phone up and be told the same thing/no more information of any use ?.

I always knew HMV were shoddy but this proved to reinforce the point, the most annoying part is that despite it being placed three days ago, the website tells ME I cannot cancel the order as its awaiting shipping, thats a great level of service isnt it.:brickwall

Yeah I hope everyones do too.

Sad thing is that had they simply said, apologies, orders taking 24 hours extra due to volume, that may have at least reassured me that the order was about to ship rather than being in a seeming limbo.

After they decided to be totally unhelpful and rude with it, I decided that wasnt acceptable and that they needed to be more accountable to and reasonable with their customers, afterall its easy for them to complain about too many orders and insufficient staff but we could easily remedy that by them having no orders and too many staff couldnt we !.;)

No sign of any movement in my orders.

To add insult to injury, an HMV staff member left a message on my mobile regarding my complaint but the message was so muffled I couldnt make out the persons name.I also had an email from someone with a case number, but absolutely no content nor any attachments.

Just how inept are these people ?.:help:

They are probably just waiting for me to cancel the order now.

Out of interest what films did you order?

I ordered HD DVD's of V for Vendetta, Space Cowboys and Letters from Iwo Jima.

I strongly suspect HMV are now being deliberately awkward after my complaint regarding their total lack of interest/customer service.
