View Full Version : Streets - Going Downhill
1. Second hand discs from mvc returned before Christmas and still not replaced.
2. An order to DVDStreet placed last week arrived this morning and both discs second hand
3. Xchangestreet closing 29/01
I don't think I'll be using any of this group of companies again.
Going downhill. They reached the bottom and started knocking on the gates of hell a long time ago. First the discounts disappeared, then the prices were noticeably increased, the introduction of the £1 postage charge, arrogant & rude customer services personnel, purely arbitrary award of review points to minimise customer discounts, etc........
If Kingfisher weren't interested in running the company in such a manner to retain the customer base built-up beforehand, why did they bother buying the company? You can't asset-strip if the company has no real assets left!
Does anyone still use them? If you compare them to places like play247 and under18 then it's surprising they get any business
I used to use em all the time. Had some really good sections. But since the take over they seemed to of removed em all. Under Dance there used to be Hip Hop Trance, etc etc, but they have all gone. Real shame, used to like that site :(
They were good with the 5% and 10% discounts coupled with their loyalty points system - now they suck as badly as Tim Henman in Grand Slams!

I used to use them all the time, but stopped last summer because of the price increase's and introduction of postage charges. I rarely even visit there now.
Going downhill? Nope! they've hit rock bottom and started to dig:D

I dunno, I ordered the Freddie Collection for 35 quid (rrp 110 quid) and it turned up reasonably quickly (by courier  ). For the saving I made, I was happy, so I ordered a few discs from their sale inc. Gump for 8.99 and they all turned up sealed and pristine the next day.
No complaints. :D
Ordered Voyager 7.11 got Star Wars Video asked for replacement got refund.
Ordered Angel DVD Set got Buffy 4.1 Video Box Set it said angel on the invoice.
After/if they replace angel I will not be ordering again.
Streets was the first online store I ever ordered from (july 99). They were good but became worse and worse. The thing I bought from them was Gladiator!!!

Well, I was lured in by the cheap Godfather, but I doubt I will order there again.
I placed my order on Christmas day, but MVC sat on the order until 2 January before shipping it, using DHL Worldmail (the second slowest airmail service in the world behind Deutsche Post - I haven't received the discs yet  ). I live in Australia, and was hence unpleasantly surprised to find they charge shipping (6 quid for 5 DVDs no less) and VAT (most stores either offer free shipping or remove VAT for OS customers). On top of that, they require you to report missing discs within 28 days or they wash their hands of them.

Their prices are mostly equivalent to high street retailers now.
I had a look for Attack of the Clones s/track.
Streets -- £13.99 (plus £1 p&p)
CD Wow -- £8.99 with free p&p
Hmmm.... Decisions, decisions....

They are no longer part of the Kingfisher group and have not been for quite a while now. They are part of the Woolworths group now and yes I agree when they were bought by Kingfisher prices did rise and got worse again after being split from the Kingfisher group.

As far as I was aware Kingfisher is the parent company which owns Woolworths.

krycheck_uk not very aware then are you. Educate yourself from this website.

I suggest you check your facts as Woolies, Superdrug and MVC/Streets were split a long time ago from the electrical and DIY sectors of Kingfisher as they were not expected to make very good profits. Kingfisher discounts at Superdrug are no longer available but are at Woolies and MVC following negotiations with their new owners.
A little tip for you aswell it is looking likely that Comet are also to be sold off to a large American group and Kingfisher will be concentrating on their home improvement brands which are the most profitable.

....I work for B&Q and its the first I've heard that Kingfisher discount is still available at Woolworths and MVC...as for Comet being sold to Americans, it wouldnt surprise me, but where exactly are you getting this info from?, as again I've heard nothing about this.

I took advantage of their last discount time to order the first two sets of star trek next generation for £63 each.
Probably won't get the rest from there unless they do another offer. Worst thing that ever happened was them getting taken over: I bought a lot from them at one point but as someone said earlier, there are a lot of places cheaper now, and most not even on the net.
Shame really.

It was in a national newspaper that I read Comet was being brought by some bargain electrical chain in the US. (proberly the telegraph or times). And I think it might just be comet staff that have the discount at woolworths, but I dont know how that works though.
I used to order Dreamcast games from Streets, the lovely 40% preorder discount meant you could get new games for £24 delivered. Happy days...
Received two DVD's this morning, one of which was second hand (finger prints and all!!). I used them a lot in the past, but as stated earlier, they now leave a lot to be desired!
I used to use them a lot but now I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole! Used to be one of my favourites too, shame.
I make a point of psoting in Streets related threads about how abysmally bad they are after I was royally messed around by them. Given their prices are no longer cheap, I can't understand how they are still in business, Amazon are infinitely better.
