Anyone dloaded the Looney Tunes: ACME Arsenal Demo??? Any good worth a dload or not??
Looney toons? That raises a question for me. How is it that when I (and others) were in our teens no matter how cool we thought we were we'd play the likes of Castle of Illusion, Looney Toons Adventure, Quack Shot etc, but if you mentioned this type of game to a teenager now they'd probably laugh?

Downloaded the demo. My son liked it, but it looked pretty poor to me. Bad camera control, glitchy graphics and no real idea of where you are supposed to go.

So im thinking about getting a 360 but it seems there is no way to play NCAA 2008 as its not a region free game... that kinda sucks as i hear its better than madden so im not sure what to do... any suggestions?
Is it feasible to buy a US machine or will it just cost a lot more?

Feasible, but what you gonna do when it RROD's? MS here are unlikely to sort it out....

Apparently they will repair it, but you'll get a PAL model back. People who've sent in Asian machines have had PAL back.

I think you did well out of that one; I've read accounts of people sending in Asian and US machines and getting Pal refurbs back. Perhaps it's because they tend to repair your own console if at all possible now rather than just swapping out refurbs.
Looks like it will be Puzzle Quest as next week's XBLA game for a hefty 1200pts.
After all the positive praise regarding the DS version, i'm looking forward to this, BUT of course we have PGR 4 & The Orange Box out next week also .... AAARRGGHH!! ... Too much & too little time. :|
Orange Box is out next friday too?
Orange Box is out next friday too?
Yes it is, on EA's press site they have it listed as 19th October but it has been noted as a mistake and during the last week or so Doug Lambardi of Valve reconfirmed it as getting released 12th October in UK/Europe.
Retailers don't seem to have changed their date yet but i'm pretty certain we'll see it for next friday.

So that's 800 pts for the game and 1200 pts for all the themes which are released the day after. They're pricey even months after but I can't imagine they weren't being made alongside the game.

It's not just insane it's flipping deluded, who the hell is going to pay 2000 pts (£17.00 btw) for all I can tell, is another very similar version of Tetris.
MS should really step in and do something about this, clearly they were holding back on content to eek more cash out of people. But then, if people pay for it...
But then, if people pay for it...
Exactly - if people didn't buy this sort of content, then it would be priced differently
Just picked up an elite for halo 3 and the noise is insane! The fans are a bit whiney, but when the dvd drive spins up its like being in a laundromat with 20 washing machines on spin cycle (well, a slight exageration, but you can hear it over the top of a fairly noisy halo 3 game without any problems). Then I looked online and discovered that I have a BenQ drive - a quiet one apparently! Is my drive defective, or is it only quiet in comparison to the older drives, but still stupid loud in comparison to almost anything else?
Does anyone know if a US 120Gb hard disk will work with a UK 360? Wondering if there may be any region locking of the peripherals.

I believe it works ok as a HD but the transfer s/w DVD is region locked so you can't run it.

Sadly I think it would probably be a cert in maybe not even getting it for friday/saturday unless you could get special delivery postage. I'm just going to trade in a few things and get it that way next friday, not taking any chances!
I've cancelled all my pre-orders for next week, and am getting them from our local Tesco - just hope they have em.
It's a pity there was no way to let GamePlay know why I was cancelling.
I got Halo 3 in Blockbuster for £35, so i'm hoping PGR4 will be the same price.

They're not very consistent, Bioshock was also 34.99 so I hoped Skate would be cheap but that was 44.99!

Took the plunge and bought a wireless headset at the weekend. Very comfortable to wear and the audio for me was very clear but my mate I was chatting to on live said I sounded a lot quieter and more distant that when I was using my wired headset? He had his volume up full and when I switched bac to wired he said I sounded a lot clearer.
Are there any setting you can tweak, it does seem that the headset microphone is very far away from your mouth.

As for this week's Xbox Live Arcade Games..
Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords has all of the same features as other platforms with the added joy of LIVE play, HD support, Achievements, Vision camera support, and more. A mere 1200 points (which also makes it easier on the wallet than on other platforms).
And if you're American/Canadian ....
Toyota is delivering an absolutely free game featuring their all new Yaris.

Microsoft this morning confirmed part of the bundle rumor that's been ravaging the Internet for weeks: All Xbox 360s and Xbox 360 Elites will now come with free copies of Forza Motorsport 2 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance, a $90 value.
Wonder if the UK market will get anything similar...... (ivo Yaris... probably not).
Hmm expensive few weeks coming up.

I agree! In all my years of console owning I can nver remember a time where I've been as spoilt for choice with the software.
Games I want that i haven't got yet, or are upcoming include...

I was worried though when the first voice-over was performed by Stephen Hawkins. But play it for 5 minutes & you're hooked. This will do very nicely while I await PGR4.

Yes, it's just way too addictive. Downloading the trial I was thinking to myself there is no way I am going to pay out 1200 bones. Soon as the trial finished I was straight on the buy button. I've been playing it for hours today and only just found out you can add to your citadel!
One thing I don't understand is the 'free turn' business, mostly the computer gets it but now and again I get a free turn, seems totally random at the moment though...

Its related to skill rank (press Y when leveling up to see what effect it has) For each skill level you get an extra % chance of getting an extra turn when you make a line of a certain colour

some news on the next motherboard after the falcon
Microsoft didn’t want you to know about Falcon, and it certainly doesn’t want you to know about its successor Jasper. But that’s another secret we have to unveil.
Jasper is the code name for the next motherboard for the Xbox 360. It will becoming next August, in time for next year’s holiday season. Jasper is going to have a 65-nanometer graphics chip from ATI Technologies, as well as smaller memory chips. That isn’t much information, but it’s enough to tell us about their cost-reduction plan. If you ask me, it’s a bit of a slow pace.
I don’t know why it will take Microsoft essentially three years to cost reduce the size of the graphics chip through a manufacturing shrink. It doesn’t seem like they’re in a hurry to launch a redesigned Xbox 360 graphics chip, considering that Intel introduced its first 65-nm chips a long time ago. ATI uses TSMC to make its chips out of Taiwan, and TSMC hasn’t been the fastest at moving to 65-nm manufacturing. I understand these tasks are difficult and they take a lot of engineering resources. Microsoft has had to divert a lot of engineers to debugging problems with Xbox 360 reliability. Even so, you would think that they would have moved faster, since the move to 65-nm graphics chip will likely be one of the best things they can do to improve the reliability.

I haven't spotted any cheating, just the occasional "lucky" drop onto the screen of skulls for your opponent's turn. Or do you mean the "suggested move" that the A.I. picks for you? ... That can be dodgy at times but if you pay attention, you can spot when it is.
Currently upto level 11 & remain undefeated after 20+ battles playing the Quest mode. :D
The depth of gameplay is excellent. You get "puzzle" boards to solve to gain Mounts & also you're forced to play "timed" levels when you want to level up your Mounts. Very challenging.
lucky my bottom... the enemy often hits one innocent move of 3 in a row, then gets a mega chain of about 8 with about 4 "extra turn" moves and several 5xskulls. Before I had a go yesterday, the orc thing took half my life points and had almost all his power levels near full. Absolutely shocking.
And yes.. whenever the ocmputer suggests a move I get ripped open every time I take its advice. There must be a way to turn that off...

The 360 made the scratches? My Marvel Ultimate Alliance has the same problem so i'm stuck with it. But the game also freezes up quite a bit. No problem for me as I've finished the game, but my son on the other hand isn't too happy.

Virtua Fighter 5 demo meant to be on the marketplace now.
As a VF fan I really like it. there are 4 characters, 2 of which are the new ones (monkey style Eileen, and Luchador fighter El Blaze. CPU is easy, but that's expected for a demo. Versus mode (2 player mode) even has a commentary system.
Judging from the demo, and the info I already know about it (ie Arcade version C enhanced, online mode, leaderboards, increased quest item customisation) I see no reason why VF5 shouldn't eclispse VF4: Evo as the best 3D fighting game ever made! :notworthy
The headsets that come with the 360 are OK, but are the £30 wireless ones much better? are they worth the extra money?

for people trying to trade games in, go to cex online get the prices from them in the sell to basket, then take it into gamestation, and get them to price match, got an extra 25quid credit that way..

They'll only pricematch if there's a CEX in the same town/city, obviously. Luckily one just opened in Derby!
If there's a Playtime (smallish chain) near you, I find they give better trade-in prices than CEX, Gamestation or Forbidden Planet anyhoo.
There's a 'Playtime' near me, but i've never seen games amongst the vibrating fannies and poppers.

Question: I have a launch day 360 that RROD'd, I hacked it up before they announced the 3 year warranty - doh. Thinking about getting a new one, now the PSU for the old one is buried away in my AV cabinet and a pain in the arse to get out, can I just plug a new 360 into the old PSU? I believe the new PSU's are smaller/less powerful, therefore would this cause a problem?

Yep. For RROD you have a 2 year warranty from date of purchase, plus an extra year once the repair has been completed. For any fault that isn't RROD you only have a 12 month warranty from date of purchase.

Well technically it's only a 3 year warranty if your system fails with the RROD just before it is 2 years old. Then you get a 12 month extension on your warranty, so it's a maximum 3 year warranty. For all other hardware failures it's still only a 12 month warranty from the date of purchase.

You may as well try and get it sorted when it is best for you or it will hit you when you don't want it like when the Halo 3 beta went live for me.

You won't get a replacement, you'll get your console repaired. As things stand at the moment (without wanting to jinx myself or anyone else!) recently repaired consoles seem to fail fairly infrequently.

ah, i'm not sure about revenge mode as you usually can't shoot, but it sounds like you're playing it wrong, you control a bomb, detonate it at the right time to create as big a chain of destroyed enemies as possible, also you want to collect the quickens - dropped by different coloured enemies to speed things up so you can get bigger chains - the big chains get you extra lives/bombs (same thing) and more time iirc :)

I worry about my play and charge kit in general. The charge doesn't last very long now. And when I plug it into the 360, it no longer stops recharging or turns the 360 off when it's presumably fully charged... it just stays on indefinitely, becoming scalding hot.

Is there any way to stop the 360 showing some dvds in 4:3 when using the VGA cable? I guess its because of the upscaling but I never had the problem when using component, and its normally from TV show DVDs. Is there a setting I can change on the 360 itself?

if the image format is 4:3 then that's what the xbox will output (i'm guessing that's what the 'problem' is as you say it's on TV DVDs). If you have to fill the screen then you can stretch the image but the AR purists will string you up for even thinking of that ;)

After some further investigation, it seems like a problem between my router and xbox. If I plug directly into the cablemodem can access live ok. But if I try using the router it fails at xbox live on the test every time (I have tried wired and wireless but still the same). I have a PC and laptop both also sharing the router and can access internet etc...ok and the live was fine using the router yesterday.

If it's true, I think there'll be quite a few disgruntled owners out there
I hope they do it (in time for my replacement when I need it :D )
Don't see any reason to be disgruntled, but then I'm managing to deal with the fact my PS3 cost the wife £425 with no games or anything about six months ago

GRAW2 is getting extra co-op/death match content (with extra achievements)
also rumours that Bioshock is getting extra content, according to teletext, it will extra plasmids and weapons

How strange. If I try to play the E4 demo without being connected to Live, it tries to get me to sign into a guest gamertag, and tells me: "If you proceed, you will not be able to purchase the full game."
Good job I don't want it.

no, they're just thinking about it at the moment

They've been rumouring those Bioshock extra plasmids for ages, since pre-release. Can't say I'd pay for them, they'd have to be free, since only two or three plasmids make any real difference anyway.

So highly likely it is.

Personally, I can't imagine a duller universe than Halo's, and inserting this void (can you insert a void? I dunno) of interest into an RPG (yawn) would've actually made my brains melt out of my nose in a stream of stultified pink goo, so it's a good thing that story's a crock du merde.

Go on then, I'll bite.
Unless you were sarcasticly pointing out that the thing was a joke, as I said in post 220, then fill us all in on what you were going on about - I know I'm not a mind reader!
I have no idea what you are going on about!
Forget I even posted and I'll forget you did! This is hardly on topic anyway!

Anyone with any console with HDMI notice that if you use VGA, turn the console on but don't have it plugged into anything, it won't load and you have to restart with the VGA cable connected ?
Didn't with my last one, does with this and my mate has the same problem with his Elite..

why would try to use the console with no av cable connected?

why would try to use the console with no av cable connected? Nooo the cable (at the back of the console) is connected, it's just not plugged into anything, since I usually turn 360 on, then change VGA cables by hand (since I use my computer monitor).
Now I have to do it first, then turn the 360 on.
When I connect the HDMI, I only get a picture in the bottom right hand corner of the screen, it's very annoying, as every other HDMI source I've tried has been absolutely fine.

Has anyone else got Ecco the Dolphin on XBLA? I never played it when I was younger and I can't get past the octopus. It says you have to swim slowly past him to avoid getting hit, yet it's impossible! I try and go that slow that I don't move, and when I carefully breathe on the analogue stick I get a slap!

Does anyone here use online Game rentals for the 360 and if so who do you reccommed? I'm looking to go through some games I wasn't that interested in buying and my local 'Choices' is way too expensive.

You must pass by him without getting hit by his tentacle, which he will swing at you if you try to rush past him. Align yourself so that you are facing straight up between the spikes on the left and the tentacle on the right. Slowly move straight up. Once you are past him, you will have to go back past him the oppisite direction (down). Use the same slow movements. This is the only octopus in the level and the achievement will unlock when you beat it (not when you pass the octopus). Could try that, was so close to buying that game but I couldn't even do the first part =)
Thanks. Although, that was what I was trying. You barely get a chance to move.
Those old sega games are pretty tough. Ecco always was a bit difficult, but I was surprised how tricky the original Sonic was.

Anyone here know when MS are re-releasing the Wireless Steering Wheel?
I asked in Game on Saturday and was told they were re-called from all shops due to a fault.
Also the re-release should include PGR4 (rather than 3).

Thanks, but no mention of when MS are going to put them back on sale. I've searched various web stores and high street shops and none of them have it in stock :(
In addition to Battlestar Galactica available via XBLA this wednesday, the game Exit is also released for 800pts. This looked really good on the PSP I believe? .... Surprised to see it so soon as it was only announced for 360 not that long ago. Anyone played it & can provide comments please?

technically no it's not out as that's what the psp game is called, normally there wouldn't be any reason to get all nit-picky, but "every extend extra extreme" is on xbla and it's pretty different from the (brilliant) psp version - not played the xbox one much at all but so far don't like the changes, which make the game completely different.
edit- sorry if i sound a bit angry but they seem to have ruined my favorite psp game :( although hopefully there's something i'm missing from the xbox varsion?

Oh, if that's the case, I probably won't like it either - I love the PSP version and was hoping for a HD, 5.1 extravaganza of the same game on the 360!

Never played the PSP one, but spent over an hour on one game at the weekend once I'd worked out how to play it properly. The only problem is that it gets very repetitive, with little development other than getting faster.
