...what would it look like, and how many movies would you own? Just out of interest, as a follow up to my 'buying DVDs for the sake of owning them' thread last week.

Mine would probably be:

Alien (R1)
Aliens (R1)
Almost Famous: Untitled (R1)
Army of Darkness: Limited Edition (R1)
Audition (R2)
The Blair With Project (R1)
The 'Burbs (R1)
Charlie's Angels (R2)
Chasing Amy (R1)
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Superbit (R1)
Drive (R2)
Enter The Dragon (R1)
The Evil Dead: Limited Edition (R1)
Evil Dead II (R1)
The Exorcist (R1)
Fist of Fury (R2)
Ghostbusters (R1)
Goldeneye (R1)
The Goonies (R1)
Iron Monkey (R2)
Jaws dts (R1)
Jurassic Park (R2)
La Haine (French R2)
Leon: International Version (R1)
Licence To Kill (R1)
Mallrats (R1)
The Matrix (R4)
One Night At McCool's (R1)
Ring (R2)
Se7en (R1)
Shaolin Soccer (R3)
The Sixth Sense (R1)
Superman (R1)
The Talented Mr. Ripley (R2)
The Terminator (R1)
Toy Story: The Ultimate Toy Box (R1)
The Way of the Dragon (R2)

That's 38 movies, comprised mostly of cult horror, quirky comedy, nostalgia-inducing titles and classic kung-fu. Add a couple of my fave Bond movies, a movie or two simply for T&A, some foreign language for variety and some all time faves. I could live without the rest of my collection - it's nice to have, but the above titles more than satisfy. And there are some decent demo discs in there too (no Private Ryan, I'm afraid, for the movie does not live up to its opening...one I'd be OK with losing, I think).

Anyone else feel like passing the time in this unbelievably stupid way, or genuinely care to let the world know what they just HAVE to have in their collection?

It's easier to say what I'd get rid of.

I have American Beauty, Sphere and Thomas Crown Affair (1999) in my collection for reasons unknown.

I also have a lot of pap in Box Sets that I'm keeping just because they are all together. The latter two Alien films are definitely surplus, as is Ollie Stone's Heaven & Earth, and at least 12 of the 19 Bond films.

Out of all my collection, I could probably do very well without the following:

Depredador (Spain R2) - Spanish disc ofPredator. The DVD is uncut, just don't particularly watch the film.
Jack Reed: Badge Of Honour (UK R2) - Budget DVD of made-for-TV pap starring Brian Dennehy.
Scum (R2) - I don't particularly like this British borstal film at all.
World at War, The - Volume 1 - I never bothered getting the whole set.

That's pretty much it really.

I simply sold every DVD that I simply 'owned' instead of 'wanting' - left me with pure quality!!

Never watch:

Analyze This
Big Daddy (which was a gift)
Tomb Raider (God, that's pants)
and I don't think I will get over the outrageous cuts in Cliffhanger to watch it again.

Still, it's a beautiful collection... (http://www.dvdprofiler.com/mc.asp?alias=jamie_rowe)

If I was going to lose 16 DVDs down the back of my sofa, mine would be...

American History X
Battlefield Earth (R1)
Billy Elliot
Cherry Falls
Demons (Fatboy Slim video single)
Elizabeth
Heaven & Earth
Oliver Stone's America
Swingers
The Cell
The Limey
The Opposite of Sex
The Straight Story
Tom Green: Something smells funny
Vampires
Vertical Limit

I know that there's some reasonable films in there, but nothing that I couldn't live without. I'd definitely hold on to my Killer Klowns from Outer Space, though.

My streamlined collection would look something like this:

Alien Boxset
Basic Instinct
Blade
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Die Hard Boxset
The Matrix
Monty Pythons Life Of Brian - Criterion
Robocop - Criterion
Seven Samuria - Criterion
Shrek
Terminator 2
Toy Story Boxset

Thats would be my bare bones collection, it just goes to show how many of my 240 odd dvds I really don't need (scary).

Gotta tell ya folks - think its far too much effort to organise collections alphabetically... hehe
