View Full Version : What they done to ET then?
On www.et20.com (http://www.et20.com) they have some new "never seen before (yawn:o)" photos of the digitally altered ET for the film's reissue.
Although he / it seems different I can't put my finger on what has been altered.
Anyone?
Boink!
Spielberg has attempted to remove guns and some of the violence I seem to recall reading. I've seen the digitally altered picture of the scene where Elliot is riding with ET on the bicycle approaching the roadblock, and the agents guns have been replaced with walkie-talkies.
The DVD release is going to have both cuts according someone working on the project.
It's worth having a look at the trailer at http://www.et20.com.
There are several glimpses of the CGI'd ET, and mention of the added scenes. Christ, I wish they'd left it alone.
I notice they've even redone the 'flying past the moon' sequence!
My thoughts... Is nothing sacred anymore? I can't help but feel sorry for all those original FX technicians whose hard work is being increasingly masked by wibbly-wobbly* CGI. The scene of ET running after his departing ship looks RUBBISH.
Thank god, they're putting the original on the DVD - I know which version I'll be buying it for. Oh, and thanks Carlo Rambaldi, if you're reading this...
*wibbly wobbly = CGI that just looks TOO fluid, TOO plasticy and just TOO over the top. What ever happened to a little subtlety, ILM?

I don't care about the film or the rerelease - not my cup of tea.
I do agree, however, with the fact that directors and producers seem to edit classic films willy nilly. WHY? They seem to know about as much about what teh public want as tv schedulers!!
