Been looking forward to this ever since I heard one of the sample jokes.

Asian school:

Pupil: Sorry sir I left my satchel on the bus
Teacher : Well Done. Six House Points!

Ah I saw something about this a while back but wasn't sure if it was an old series. I've been following Omid Djalili since I saw his standup in 2000, he's done pretty well since then but he's still not a household name

Will certainly Sky+ it

Always try to watch his stuff since I saw him on Jack Dee's Apollo prog.

He said he was flying out to the US in 2 weeks so he must get off to Heathrow so he gets through Security in time.

Only found out recently that the accent was a put on:D

His stand up bits are really funny, but the sketches themselves are bit cringingly bad

I've seen him live and thought he was brilliant.

On this I'm finding him a bit shouty and not particularly funny.

And yeah the sketches aren't funny at all. edit: except for the kebab shop. I liked that.

disappointing. all the stage stuff was verbatim his stage act.
fair enough i suppose as the majority of viewers won't have seen that before.

sketches were not funny though. :help:

i liked the stands up bits - and the odd bits of the sketches were funny, but on the whole not - i did like the camp guy trying to make OBL photogenic though - found that very amusing.

of course overall id prefer a one off 1 hour stand up show on tv to an entire series like this, but hey ho.

Indeed, still can't understand why the BBC don't do a kind of 'one night stand' show that HBO does in America.

There are so many great "undiscovered" comics out there that will never get tv time ..... unless they write a crap sketch show that is :|

Not one hour long but Jack Dee at the Apollo (Monday nights I think) usually has a couple of standups on besides himself.

Oh dear - was really looking forward to this. But it wasn't really very funny at all. Will try again next week and if it hasn't improved then wont bother with the rest.

It's not Jack Dee anymore - it has a different hosteach week. Dee did the first one of this series but that's it for him now.

It's Jimmy Carr hosting this week I think.

I really enjoyed this. Occasionally the sketch bits lost it but that's true of nearly all comedy sketch shows. I thought that relative to most people, his hit rate for laughter was pretty high, I'll be watching next week!

Jimmy Carr hosting or actually doing the stand up?

Omid Djalili was on the first series of Live At The Apollo :)

His Standup is excellent, seen him live a couple of times and he's quality.

The show on the other hand was definitely lacking, the standup parts were the same as the live show (no surprised, they all do it) but the sketches were painful. Hope it gets better!

Well, the host usually does ten minutes of stand-up at the beginning anyway, followed by the 'text me, it's spontaneous - honest' bit at the end.

Didn't see all of this tonight but the bit where he was talking about Scots having the mad side and Gordon Brown with the terrorists had me laughing though... :D

Thanks for the repeat info, peeps.

Caught the 2nd one last night, bit hit and miss, but I still laughed more often than not, will definitely keep watching. Always liked him whenever I've seen him, even in bit parts , (e.g The Mummy etc.)

I am sure i saw this guy doing standup a few years ago and he was was pretty funny.
My God though, this was utter rubbish. The sketches were terrible and the standup no better. He makes Lenny Henry look good!
Why do the the BBC commision this rubbish when there are so many good comedians out there?

I notice it is co-written by 8 other people. Never a good sign.

Loved his stand-up when I saw it but the series isn't much cop. Seems like he wrote one great set and can't do much else. There have been some good gags but not enough to justify a series. Saw that the first series is out on DVD now!

His trademark put the mic between his leg and wave it up and down is just plain annoying.
