Great episode if only for the scene from where they are in the car and the Verve's "Lucky Man" kicks in till the end of the song.
It almost felt like a "we could be cancelled" type of episode giving the characters a decent finish with a cliffhanger tied on to the end.

Yeah, brilliant episode. This show just gets better every week as they really open up the time-travel aspects, although they are getting close to that line of changing the past so much, it's going to have a noticeable effect on the present/future. The Verve song was just the icing on the cake. Typically though, one of the strongest new shows is having bad rating problems & combined with the writer strike, I fear we are doomed to have this cancelled on us without any resolution.

I *loved* the fact that clearly Lyvia's own mission was to get Dan's life back on track and once she did, she disappeared as well. Marvellous stuff. His fight with himself was very well done too.

I'll be happy to get a full season out of this - i fear that to expect any more would be futile. But yes, the three of us say it every week - best new show this year.

Excellent stuff, I'll watch as much of this as they can throw at me.

Best episode so far, pace really picked up, lets hope for at least a 12 or 13 episode season. Be a big shame to cancel it now.

I love the show but I wasn't won over by that part.
William Shatner sprung to mind!

Best epiosde of the season, and for me the best new show of the year. Far better than I expected when I read the basic idea and I think the writers and actors should be commended for turning a fairly average premise into such a good show so far

Episode 1 is on Sky One in 10 minutes, for those who haven't seen the show yet.

Great series so far, one of my favourites of the new shows.

Please don't get cancelled..

I'm beginning to wonder if Mrs Journeyman will ever actually see him jump... she always seems to turn away at precisely the wrong moment.

Only found out this week that Dan's part is played by a Scot, Kevin McKidd. Very convincing accent - in contrast to the very ropey accent of Lennie James in Jericho.

So you didn't recognise him from Trainspotting, Dog Soldiers, Rome, etc etc

It's AIDS ridden Tommy from Trainspotting.

You wonder who or what is sending him back to these times & events? Is there a bigger power involved?

What I want to know is - where does Liv (his ex) jump *back to*. She's dead in the 'real' timeline. Is she an angel? Snatched from the plane wreck by aliens? Never really died?

I'm guessing she was "snatched" from the plane, moments before it crashed & transported to some time in the future, when the technology is possible to time travel. However this doesn't explain why she was unaware of Dan's present situation (new wife & kid).

I don't think that Livia is using any special technology to 'jump'. That would suggest that there's just a scientist with a machine somewhere that's deciding when & where to send Dan. That just doesn't seem to feel right.

As mentioned before we can't be sure where Livia's default timeline is or even if she has one. If she existed in Dan's present or his future then she'd have been able to look him up and know about his wife & kid. So I guess there's the chance that she doesn't have a baseline and is just either jumping constantly or in some kind of holding area.

didn't she say she never got on the plane? and that she did it so dan wouldn't find out about her jumping?
i'm sure i remember it from on of the early episodes.

Great episode. Really getting into this show, and I loved the music.

Livia said that she had been jumping since before she met Dan. While she was with Dan it stopped happening so she never felt the need to tell him. Then they broke up for some reason, she got on that plane but jumped before it crashed. It's not clear if that jump was the first one that had happened for years or if she maybe broke up with him because her jumping was starting to happen again and she didn't know how to tell Dan about it.

I could be wrong about this, but I don't recall anyone saying they'd split up before Lyvia took that plane flight. I thought they were very much stil a couple when she supposedly "died".

This episode was definitely the best of the season so far, but the writing and performances are still sub-par compared to the more light-hearted new shows like Pushing Daisies and Chuck. There's been very little character progression throughout the season and this ep helped advance things a little, but the whole storyline concerning the stolen money is so contrived I actually think they've started hiring 14yr old scriptwriters to break the writer's picket lines! It was the theft of a couple hundred grand 30yrs ago FFS! The FBI are going after the case like it was a presidential assassination! And don't get me started on the monumental stupidity of main character - who is a bleedin Crime reporter - for keeping flagged cash and not bothering to just gain funds the obvious way (on the horses or something)! It's all just a lazy assed way to give the brother character his own story angle and add extra tension to the hero's normal life.

Mind you, we are talking about a show that basically shamelessly stole Quantum Leap's concept and just added some post-Heroes "real people with real life dilemmas faced with a fantastical affliction" nonsense to ramp up the drama.

I know what you mean - I've watched House for years and I read the other day that Hugh Laurie is English! Now THAT is a convincing accent.
