Norton Internet Security 2004 - This program causes some Links to disappear. Uncheck Block Popups from the Web assistant toolbar menu Norton Internet Security Adds to Internet Explorer, then reboot to make it take effect.

Ad Aware Pro or Plus 6 (Not free versions) - Causes some links to not work. Close Ad Watch or remove these lines from:

As I said above:

Basically the provide money to the forums for every purchase made through that company at no cost to the pruchaser (the company you are buying from give a percentage/fixed amount of the sale to the forums.

Yeah, but using the direct address isn't really useful either as the forums won't get their affiliate money. If your ISP doesn't let you go via qksrv then I guess you have no choice but everyone else -use the affiliate link where possible!

I don't think the forums have a choice over the url... Qksrv isn't a shortcut link or anything you know? Qksrv is an affiliate scheme provider. Specifically, it's crucials choice of affiliate provider.

Maybe the link will recover for you at some point in the future. Argos didn't use to work for me but for some reason it does now.

on my machine (XP Home), it lives in this directory: "C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc" and is just called "hosts" (it may be a hidden file) - load it in notepad and see if it is excluding the http://www.qksrv.net address

its weird as this should not be the cause but it seems to be that if the link is unparsed, its visible, where as if its parsed, you can't see it - will put it below to see how it affects you:

Following on from the recent article on DVD Times am I correct in saying all I need to do is use the relevant link to visit the site and nothing more to provide you guys with some extra cash?

This was discussed earlier in the thread, you don't use any ad blocking software do you, or perhaps you have a modified 'hosts' file, if that is the case you will need to remove the entries for both those links. Having said that I can not access and qksrv.net links although the tracker ones are fine.

As I said they're bookmarked so it's all configured anyway.

My hosts file is modified but I've tried deleting it and it made no difference plus there is no reference to those websites in it anyway.

No I don't run ad-blocking software. I do use Mozilla which has some form of ad-blocking built into it but when I try opening the link in Internet Explorer it doesn't open in that also.

Can you open a command prompt and try to do a tracert to both sites?

If you get no response then contact your ISP as it should not be blocked.

Have you run spybot etc too to check for spyware etc?

I'll have to have a look what was in my hosts file causing issues, not that I really need a custom hosts file in the first place.

Hi, regarding the second post, I wondered if you're aware that these sites are now blocked by the PGIPDB (http://methlabs.org/sync/) (full version and most subsets). This probably affects a lot of people - anyone using P2P software and running Peer Guardian or Protowall etc. People may also have the lists imported directly into their firewall or P2P client.

Maybe not so bad... e.g. for Peer Guardian it's just a case of having to untick the 'Block banned IPs' box for a moment whilst the aff link is clicked. But people may not be aware of this.

Yahoo Bookmarks

1. Go to bookmarks.yahoo.com and use the Import Bookmarks link, specifying the file you downloaded.

With Yahoo Bookmarks you get them all in a central place, plus you can use Yahoo Companion toolbar to get your bookmarks anywhere.

Have you looked into www.holidayextras.co.uk on the front page. There fees look good for example they pay 10% on airport parking which for a 2 week holiday from heathrow can cost £120. I have seen them mentioned a lot on the forums so may be worth a go.

Thanks for pointing this out, but we no longer sign up to the small independent schemes as we have been ripped off repeatedly and can't justify the time it takes chasing them up for the small amount of money they earn. They always come out winners as they get the free advertising regardless and we end up doing a load of work for no reward.

I tend to block cookies from most advertisers I encounter, including tradedoubler.com, qksrv.net, etc. I have no problems accessing the websites from the affiliate links, including the examples in post #2 (http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2308171&postcount=2) of this thread. However I wondered if by doing this I am rendering ineffective my use of the affiliate links. Does blocking cookies from these sites mean that the forums wouldn't get the sponshorship when these links are used?

liamail - yes it would. Many of the affiliate schemes actually pay us if you return to buy something from them up to two months after you originally clicked a link. By blocking the cookies, they will have no record that you came via our link, and we miss out :(

Not yet because they don't operate an affiliate scheme through any recognised provider and we keep getting robbed on these small schemes (I am currently battling to get money out of the smaller schemes and then we're dropping them). Colin may sign up though as part of DVD Times and extend it onto the forums which might make it more worthwhile. If I was paid to run the schemes then we'd have gone bankrupt months ago just on the time & cost chasing people that owe us money.
