View Full Version : Is there another way to watch Sky1 apart from Sky?
Haveing some work done on the house & getting a HDTV, so now thinking about my other TV watching options.
At the moment we have Sky+.
Looking into getting a HD box of some sort, but would also really like to watch Sky1.
Not really botherd about the Sky TV HD extra channels, but would like BBC, & Ch4 (and any other free ones).
Would like to keep Sky1 as watch Lost, Battlestar Gallatica, & 24.
Kids also watch the Disney channel so would like that as well.
Is there any other way to go other than Sky for these?
Is there a Freeview HD box at all, or is there only Sky & Virgin?

There were some Freeview HD tests run in London during the world cup but I think they've finished now, don't think there will be a national HD Freeview service unti after the analog switch-off, so a few years yet.
TBH, based on the shows you watch I would have thought SkyHD would be a pretty good bet, as all the shows you list are shown in HD on SkyHD.

Not for Sky1 as it is only on Sky I believe.
Disney is on Virgin I think (but I personally wouldn't touch Virgin aka NTL with a barge pole).

No Freeview HD yet in general use. There will be eventually, but it's a while off yet. They need to close down analogue to free up space first.
BT Vision (BT's internet TV service) might do HD at some stage I believe.
Though you say you're not interested in Sky's HD channels, but all the shows you've listed on Sky1 are available in HD. BSG in HD is one reason alone I'd buy SkyHD :D (if they dropped the £10 a month fee that is :().
When I got rid of Sky and switched to Freeview for financial reasons, Sky1 was the only channel I really missed.
Unfortunately I don't think there's another option apart from Sky.
