They're better. Clerks could very well be the greatest comedy ever.

Probably Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back is the closest Kevin Smith has come to the tone of Mallrats so you should definitely seek that out.

Clerks is brilliant and quite hilarious, as long as you can get past the grainy black and white photography and the shoestring budget.

Chasing Amy is quite different, being at heart a love story and a lot more serious... although there is still a fair amount of humour and it is about comic artists so you'd probably enjoy it.

Dogma is also well worth a look.

Both Clerks and Amy are much better films than Mallrats.

Download the script for Dogma because it's much funnier than the film.

I saw clerks on the cinema ages ago and I don't think he's ever bettered it. Excellent stuff and still very funny.

Mallrats is generally considered the worst of Kevin Smith's films... though hardcore Kevin Smith fans love it in a cult way.

Clerks is more subtle comedy, 100% dialogue rather than slapstick, and it has a documentary style. It's my personal favourite. Chasing Amy is much more of a drama than a comedy, but it is excellent. Dogma is funny and intellectually interesting, but it's quite shambolic and badly acted. I haven't seen Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back, but it is balls-out comedy like Mallrats.

Jay and Silent Bob is fantastic - Watch it!

IMO I like Mallrats the best - guess I am just simple!

Provided you avoid the R4 DVDs, you'll be very happy. Both films are great (and you'll need them to complete your Jersey Trilogy). The MRSPs of both feature-laden R1 discs have recently been reduced (along with the animated Clerks Uncensored) and they can now be had for about $US14.30 each - an absolute steal IMHO.

Don't forget that if you watch that one next you'll miss half the jokes though! Leave that one till last

Nope - $14 ea, for pre-order (re)released on 26 February. Perhaps you need to hit refresh.

EDIT - Mallrats remains at $27.

Kevin Smith is a genius-

I bought Chasing Amy on Criterion when I last visited the States and think the story is fantastic (and a big up to Kevin Smith for going out with Joey Lauren Adams in real life). Well worth checking out if you liked MallRats...

OK, here (http://www.cdnow.com/cgi-bin/mserver/SID=904141743/pagename=/RP/CDN/FIND/popsearch.html/clickID=tn_srch_txt) is the link to dogma on the cdnow site - where it states $26.98. Looked through the advanced orders section - nothing about a dogma re-release. Can SOMEONE please tell me if I'm going mad, cos I cannot find it at the price mentioned!!! Samuel, can you post a link to it - cheers!!

Not sure if you are going mad, but I don't think anyone said Dogma was reduced in price...
Clerks and Chasing Amy were the reduced price discs.

I have one on order from dvdimport, and the other on order at deepdiscountdvd.
Use www.********************* to find todays cheapest way (just avoid R2 & 4 for these particular titles!)
