Ok so it started a few weeks ago, but only caught up with the first 3 seasons.

Nice start to a new season and alot of the old cast members have gone, but some will be back for cameo roles.

And just to get everyone in the BL mood here are a few excellent quotes from past seasons that they like to call meta-references (talking about the show itself in the storyline) :notworthy

In the episode "An Eye for an Eye", Alan is asked if there is "someplace he'd rather be" to which he quips that he'd like to be on cable as that is where all of the best work is being done.

In "Gone", Denny, after shooting a homeless man in the face with a paintball gun, tells Alan, "They can't get rid of me, I'm the star of the show!"

* In the same episode, Denny tells Alan while on the balcony "I can act, I won an Emmy." William Shatner who plays Denny Crane has won two Emmys for the role. Alan Shore responded, "Just the same", as James Spader has also won two.
* Denny complained that he was "tired of [his] Alzheimer's being a story point."
* Alan says to Denny, "Ah, there you are. I've hardly seen you this episode."

In the second episode of the third season, "New Kids on the Block", a new male law partner and a law associate arrive at the firm and tell Denny they are the new guys, to which Denny responds, "If there were new guys they would have shown up in the season premiere." Then, Denny grabs the new girl's buttocks and says "Welcome to Boston Legal." After she complains, Denny looks at the camera and says, "Cue the music", at which point the opening credits begin. As the opening logo to the show slides on from off camera, Craig Bierko's character Jeffrey is seen to be looking back and forth as if 'seeing' the credits transition on screen.

This is my fave :notworthy

In "Guantanamo by the Bay", Jerry Espenson tells Shirley Schmidt he hears a "happy song" in his head. When she asks him to sing it, he begins to sing the Boston Legal theme song as the credits begin. He can be heard and seen throughout the credits singing along. During Candice Bergen's intro shot on the opening credits, a startled Shirley Schmidt can be seen listening to Jerry Espenson rather than the stock footage of Schmidt.

My favourite was in the third season finale when Denny says to the reporters "I used to captain a starship you know; multi-talented."

I'm sure the last words of season two were along the lines of:
Alan: I can't wait till next season.
Denny: Same time same place?
Alan: We can but hope.

Fantastic writing. Thought the closing argument made by John Laroquette in the cock trial was very clever. My biggest problem with him is that as it's set in the same universe as The Practice (which introduced Denny and Alan's characters) he's clearly a serial killer called Joey Herrick.

Just watched Ep 3 of season 4 - laughed out loud at the rather juvanile cock jokes

Its abality to be both extremley funny but at same time touching is great

I must have missed that bit, but then again i'm not a Star Trek fan so that might have flown right past me. ;)

The season 3 opening for me is the best meta-reference scene yet. The big Denny Crane welcome for Constance Zimmer :D.

As good as ever. The new cast additions work well, and I'm not missing many old faces.

Loved the toilet scene - "mine always looks like that after its been naughty!"

Some very funny scenes over the last couple of episodes involving Denny firing someone because they were fat. The entrance of the presiding judge, "Marcia Fudge" & the subsequent comments by Denny & Alan's speech were hilarious & had me chuckling loudly.

Have to say Ep 7 was the worst one ever for me. Some good stuff as usual but the dismissal of the "fat" case was just silly and Clarence taking on YouTube was a bit daft. Still - a minor blip I'm sure.

The last episode (4x11) was great. This was Shatner's episode to try and bag a few awards, as he really ran the gamut of emotions.

Bit naughty them saying "but on the charge of manslaughter" though.

(4x16) was fantastic. Some great comedy Nantucket wanting a Nuke! & also very moving. Alan's closing, talking about Denny. ... Brought a tear to the eye.

Is anyone other than me still watching this excellent show?

Watching Alan Shore this week, ripping the Supreme Court a new one, was quite sublime. :notworthy

Yep still love the show but it's one of those I tend to have a catch up session on every once and a while. Rather than watch every week. Still a really class show though

Great episode. TBH I feel it's not been quite as good this season overall. The whole thing seems far sketchier than it was before, and they seem to feel the need to push the envelope more and more with the storylines (which was what killed Ally McBeal IMO). Having said that, there have been some sublime episodes this season, and this latest episode was the best of the bunch.

Never watched it before, just caught most of an episode on Living.

What.
The.
****

Crazy singing lady steals blokes sperm and gets pregnant.
Crazy lawyer walks around with his hands stuck to his thighs.
His crazy ex left him for an Ipod as she is an objectaphiliac(?), and also has her hands stuck to her thighs.
And they made clicking noises and purred.

Was this an unusually random episode, or fairly standard?

This was actually quite staid by this seasons standards.

This weeks episode was fantastic.

Right from the off, we get the best ever meta-reference in the shows history. That'll confuse people when it gets shown on Living and Virgin1.

Alan's case was great. I've been loving the whole Clinton/Obama race, and this was pitched brilliantly (I've already recommended it in the election thread). Denny's journey was great too. I guessed all the cows were going to scarper, but it didn't make it any less funny. Poignant ending too. I'm glad he told Alan she turned him down.

I love this show. :D

Another cracker of an episode this week. Denny Crane for president! :notworthy

Jerry's argument for prostitution & the lady-priest case also had fantastic writing.

I liked Denny's word association responses  and him 'snoring' at every mention of John McCain. :D

Obama used to be Whitney Houston!

It's as shame Jerry couldn't see past the prossies job, especially given his relationship with a blow up doll. Pot calling kettle on deviancy.

Is next week the season finale?

It's always good and the last few have been excellent with some brutal comments on American politics, the candidates, the courts etc. Even references to it being moved to Wednesdays in the States. Brilliant as always. As much as I like to see Spader and Shatner I'd like to see more of Saffron Burrows and Tara Summers ;-)

Well after 3 years i have finally caught up with this season (12 episodes in 3 days) and found them excellent as usual

Even the Wife who has caught only a few episodes before enjoyed it.

Only got reminded by missing these by watching the first episode of Harry's Law which (after looking up) was made by same person.
