EP30 + 7 free discs is on my Christmas list!
It doesn't surprise it's on the list. Us Brits had the most VHS players per person (globally) back in the mid 80's... We were quick off the mark with DVDs and Widescreen TV's. HD Ready flat panels are selling like hot cakes. There are several sub £200 HD DVD players out.. if the free disc offers are there. People will bite! When Sub £200 DVDs players came out in supermarkets it just took off real fast.

It's a prediction not Fact (yet anyhow).
Just taken a closer look at the Comet site, and although they do have this 1 HD-DVD player, they also have 4 Blu-Ray players.
Toshiba HD-E1 - £199.99 (web promotion price £50 off)
HD DVD is here with the Toshiba HD-E1 at an amazing low price - amazing picture quality, huge capacity discs and stunning new features make this the format to have
Sony BDPS300 - £399.99 (save £50)
Web exclusive product - Incredible HD playback for the ultimate movie experience with this Sony Blu-ray player, Also with DVD upscaling and Dolby digital plus.
Panasonic DMP-BD10AEGK - £599.99
Sony BDBS1ES - £699.99
Pioneer BDP-LX70 - £999.99
So they are pushing both formats, and consumers can choose the price bracket that they are happy with. Some people drive Ford Fiesta's some drive Ferrari's :-)

Not a very good analogy as there's no significant difference in performance between the two products (and if anything, the cheaper one offers the most advantages).

And if you can drive a Ferrari for a Fiesta price its going to sell big!
Hence why Bluray isnt even in the top ten...
No people only think they are getting a Ferrari for the price of a Fiesta, then when they look under the hood !!!!!! :)

Don't really understand this comment, what is wrong with the E1? I'm aware that it isn't 1080p but that really doesn't make that much difference, and its at a price level that can only encourage more people to look into the HD formats.
Personally I wouldn't entertain the BD Players at those price points, I would get the PS3, and then just watch films with great pictures and sounds (assuming a decent AV Amp).
Each to their own but I don't understand how people have become so attached to a disc format to the exclusion of great films on the other.
Or I may have just misunderstood the above post completely.

Really don't want to get into another one of these arguments, but in performance terms the two formats are pretty much identical, though so far, HD-DVD has tended to have a slight edge in features and in most cases where there's a difference in picture quality between the two formats HD-DVD tends to come out on top as well (though that's likely to be down to mastering more than anything else, if we ignore the early Blu-Ray discs that were still using MPEG2 and therefore looked pretty poor). It also has the advantage of no region coding and a copy protection system that actually lets you play the films you've bought, unlike BD+ apparently.
However this is way off topic for this thread, which you seem to have come into in order to post off-topic comments and troll anyway.

In fairness it probably isn't as this guy seems to actually own the kit he is supporting.

Yeah, you actually have a set up greater than a 15" CRT TV. Unlike Zotar, who is playing his PS3 on a 15" TV.

Thanks for the compliment :) My screen is about 9foot wide, only 720p for now but this will get upgraded probably next year or definetly the year after. 1080p projectors are starting to come down in price.
Just need to source my PS3, tempted to get a US one, but not sure where from, so any help here would be gratefully received. Europe has a 'Starter pack' which is now under 800chf (675 USD at the current exchange rate). This includes 2 of the better controllers and 2 games. Guess I need to compare this with a simular package in the US.
Just pre-ordered Top Gun on Blu-ray too (not cheap though). At the moment Amazon.de are not discounting HD Software (or some with a couple of %).
