Spurs have got fortunate too - although away trips to Spain and Israel won't be easy.

I quite like Hamburg's draw and hopefully they should get through, but it's a shame they weren't in a British team's group as I might have got to see them on TV.

Get your money on Bayern Munich. With their squad they should walk this competition.

But as I understand it they might not have to do that.

From reading on the BBC site, it's not a true round robin group stage ... each team only plays 4 matches (2 home and 2 away) not 8.

I don't think anyone is sure how UEFA come with it. The idea of playing home and away is that home advantage evens out so to speak.

The UEFA Cup truly is a mickey mouse competition now which has been mucked up so much to try and make it similar to the CL - whereas all they've done is make it a stupid competition.

Oh yeah - forgot about that from last season.

Slightly OT but is there only 1 UEFA place this season for finishing 5th?

The FA Cup/Carling Cup winners will still enter it won't they? Don't think Platini's idea has gone through or will apply this season.

Might be wrong though.

No, Reading qualified for the Inter-Toto but didn't want to enter, so the place would have gone to us, but due to ground work we couldn't have any home games in the summer, so next on the list was Blackburn who took the spot.

Totally agree - t'd be much better if it returned to a straight 2-legged knock-out format and they did away with using it as a consulation for CL sides who screw up.

Mind you the CL would be better as a straight knck-out as well - the group stages are boring as hell unless you follow one of the clubs as the tension isn't there and clubs can mess up and still get through (unfortunately it won't change as the big clubs are to greedy and won't want to give up their cash cow and lose a safety net).

I used to love the European nights even though Pompey were never involved or likely to be - it was just good watching a knock-out comp with matches between clubs I'd barely heard of - now with all the fixing to keep the same few in as long as possible it's just got tedious and samey every season.

Confused - which one of the group is Spanish?

Answered my own question - Getafe doesn't sound Spanish!

Update on Spurs games: Away to Hapoel (eek!) and Anderlecht. Home to Getafe and Aalborg.

We will open our UEFA Cup Group Stage campaign with a home fixture against Getafe on Thursday October 25.

This will be followed by a trip to Tel Aviv to take on Hapoel on Thursday November 8 before Match day three brings the visit of Aalborg to the Lane on Thursday November 29.

Our participation in the Group Stage concludes when we travel to Belgium for the encounter with Anderlecht on either Wednesday December 5 or Thursday December 6.

At least Bolton have Bayern away (there werent gonna win so might as well make a it a away trip) so they have 2 of the others games at home !!

EDIT Spurs might actually make 4th in this table :D

I really didnīt want Red Star Belgrade away, Iīm booked and Iīm kacking my pants already, really wanted Braga as Guimaraes was amazing.

I work in Munich sometimes (currently posting from Germany) so that will be good anyway.

Evertonīs group is tough, Zenit were excellent 2 years ago and Alkmaar are no mugs.

I've gotta book my trip to munich, can't go to the belgrade game which is a shame.
Can't wait now! Dunno what the likelyhood of me getting tickets is though. I have season tickets so hopefully will be ok.

I think weīll get enough tickets, so many people just arenīt interested in Europe. Otherwise Iīm getting tickets in their end :suspect:
