Does anyone know the release date for the R1 X Files season 5 box set?

Also can anyone confirm whether or not it will be in widescreen?

Cheers. :)

Someone has just posted a bargain preorder price for the season 4 boxset, which I guess is to be released soon. From memory aren't they released 6 months apart so I would guess that it'd be sometime in June. You could also check play to see if they have it listed.

Confirmed release date for S5 of the X-Files is May 7, expect subsequent seasons thus:

6: November 5 '02
7: May 6 '03
8: November 4 '03
9: May 4 '04

I've heard conflicting stories on whether it will be w/s or not. My understanding was that only series 6 - 9, when production moved to LA, were in w/s (and 480p) to cater in part for the HDTV market. The series up to and including 5 were produced in Canada, and were in full-frame format.

Some sites say S5 was the first in w/s, we shall see in a few weeks!

S6 was the 1st season the BBC showed in W/S so it is likely this was the first season to be done this way.

Yep, Season Six was indeed the first to be filmed in widescreen.

Hopefully Fox will release it on DVD that way!!!!

Shame to see this show go south - it was a real ground breaker >

I think it should've ended after Season Seven. Ending it now, with a whimper, seems a shame. It should have gone out on a high.

At least it looks like Duchovny is going to come back for the finale and there's the prospect of further movies.

Well well well......

From todays DVD File (http://www.dvdfile.com/):

"And last but certainly not least, we received a confirmation from Fox PR today that the upcoming The X-Files: The Complete Fifth Season will indeed be in anamorphic widescreen, and that we'll be receiving a full press release very soon. Stay tuned! "

Excellent - bodes well for the (eventual) R1 release of Angel.

Although no-one can replace Mulder and Scully, I think they made a good decision bringing Robert Patrick into the show, I like him as an actor and him movie career was hardly going anywhere...plus in the new show they have the main guy out of the Princess Bride in it (cant remember his name) he should be good too...

Some reports say that the last few episodes of Season 5 were filmed in widescreen to test how it would look.

Should have kept it simple and ended it in the movie. pitty they got greedy ($) as it could have been the best tv program of all time (and a very sucessful movie)

Widescreen confirmation in a corrected update on the official X-Files web-site....

Season Five will be released on DVD on May 14, 2002 in North America. All episodes from The X-Files fifth season are compiled on six dual-layered discs and are available in anamorphic widescreen (aspect ratio 1.78:1), a first for any of our DVD Collections. Each episode is presented with English and French Dolby Surround sound and English and Spanish subtitles.
