View Full Version : Sarah Silverman live in London! - The Sarah Silverman Program Season 2 or 3 Thread

Back for another season of offensive comedy Miss Silverman's first show tackles abortion with the gay boys having their own dungeons and dragons based subplot.
Not a huge amount of laugh out loud moments but it was a very enjoyable show with the previously seen abortion montage still making me smile.
There were some good one liners along the way mind you.
Roll on episode 2....

Urgh! You can tell that Hasslecrack bitch on The View (far right) hates her though. And when will Barbara Walters retire already?

After rewatching the AIDS episode of S1 on Paramount I've just realised that the doctor who gives Sarah her results is the same one who does her abortions!
I also think the actress who plays Kimberly, the girl Sarah fires is one of the women who recruits Sarah to the anti abortion group, though I may be wrong.

Just watched the first one of series 2, it was ok but not as good as series 1. None of her songs in it, just a Green Day one for some reason!

Can't find much info on the DVD of series 1 but I read somewhere it has extra stuff and songs and karaoke or something, was going to get it anyway as I thought series 1 was excellent.

Lorne.t

I'm not too fussed about the lack of songs as the only one I really like is "Cookie party".
Even the "Poop song" doesn't make me want to hit repeat.I know there are many tributes to it all over You Tube but I'm not desperate to hear it again.
I did obtain the "Jesus is magic" soundtrack last week which contains a few songs but I've not listened to it yet.
You can pick up the S1 dvd for under a tenner online.
It's on my Christmas list so I'll watch it then...

Just watched the Monk episode 6 - 1 where Sarah reprises her role as his number 1 fan.
It was very amusing and certainly worth looking out for.
I caught the preview for this week's SSP and it wasn't hugely funny.
However it didn't show Sarah blacking up so I'm sure there will be a few gags around that topic!

This weeks wonderful episode features a song about white dog ****,Cookie Party, doodie on a stick and corpse *******.
Just an average Sarah Silverman Program then!

stupidboyjj
25-10-2007, 13:15
Is she finally singing again then? Cos the first three episodes whilst being funny are really missing the songs.

I laughed so much I couldn't breathe after Sarah's 'transformation' last week..

Lorne.t
25-10-2007, 13:22
Yes she sings a song about white dog ****.
There was an acoustic version as an extra on the shows site during s1 but this is with backing, reminding me slightly of US band Au Revoir Simone.
May favourite moment of this week is young Sarah standing at the side of the road with doody (ie?) on a stick waving it at passing cars?
Anyone know what show young Laura is in I know her face from somwhere?

She plays Molly Walker in Heroes at the moment.

In case you don't watch Kimmel, its a running joke that he says at the end of the episode "Apologies to Matt Damon, we've run out of time". There's a clip on YouTube where Damon comes out after Kimmel does an intro that lasts about 5 minutes (then says 'a man who needs no introduction' after it :D) then apologises they've run out of time again and Damon goes beserk at him.

It's cos of things like this is why I like Matt Damon more than your average Hollywood actor guy, some people just don't have a sense of humour.

£35? No way I'll convince anyone along to that show. I quite like Jesus Is Magic, but I don't think it's that great, and personally I think her humour is going dive over here. That show is definitely one for the fans.

I listened to Jesus is Magic the other day, I love the Sarah Silverman that we saw on The Aristocrats, who came out after 911 doing a routine where you go ouch I can't believe she's got the balls to do this. The only sign of that Sarah Silverman I saw on the album was one of the first jokes (ends at 1:15), it was mainly comedy songs.

dunkrag
02-09-2008, 12:34
Also, when I called up for tickets the automated service called the show Sarah Silverman: Jesus Is Magic. Which points to it being a live version of the film, same gags etc. I hope not, as that movie is nearly 4 years old now and I've seen it to death.

i really don't think he knew how to handle her. it was a strange interview, they both seemed a bit uncomfortable in each others company.

Just back from her London show.
The bad - She performed for around 50 minutes then came out for a half arsed encore that spoilt the evening slightly.
She started her set with jokes she performed on Jonathan Ross.

The good - I knew her show was going to be short anyway as I've read a few US reviews on a Sarah forum.
Although I was booked for the front row I had no idea where my seat would be in connection to the stage.I ended up right in the flipping middle, directly opposite the lady herself!!
It was a mixture of awesome and slightly intimidating!
Sarah was on great form and I laughed throughout, especially as she performed a lot of material I hadn't heard before.
There was plenty room for old favourites though as she wheeled out a few jokes from her sitcom and played some of her songs including the poop song and the one about I pooped instead!!
I imagine there were more than a few disgruntled punters due to the running time, with a couple vocalising their feelings during Sarah's Q and A encore.
I had an amazing time but probably because of where I was sitting.
I'd go back and see her again if I could get decent seats second time around.

Oh I just spoke about this show myself in the general discussion forum, I too enjoyed it, was not fussed about the running time, as I've never been able to laugh more than 60 consecutive minutes, which is the curse that all comedy movies have to overcome, and was pleased to have my question about Howard Stern's wedding (eventually) enthusiastically answered, as I know she's a big Howard fan and a personal friend. I think I was 26 rows behind you Lorne. t, in AA, and found my attention mostly drifting toward the big screens on the sides of the stage, but loved it none the less, and do consider it, as a one-off, a pretty special event, despite the vocal rantings of a few.

Oh I just spoke about this show myself in the general discussion forum, I too enjoyed it, was not fussed about the running time, as I've never been able to laugh more than 60 consecutive minutes, which is the curse that all comedy movies have to overcome, and was pleased to have my question about Howard Stern's wedding (eventually) enthusiastically answered, as I know she's a big Howard fan and a personal friend. what was your question and what was her answer? i've seen her on the stern show a couple of times.

her tv show is getting funnier and funnier. the lates episode had me howling with laughter.

the "pusssssaaaayyyyyy" line had me crying. her delivery was awesome.

her comedy is so lateral. it comes at you from weird angles. it takes a while and then you realize that it's frickin genius.:notworthy

Went to this last night and thought it was a bit of a shambles.
I'd heard a lot of the material before and performing for 50 odd minutes was a disgrace.

The bizarre Q&A session at the end was embarassing.

To be honest the only time I really laughed was the Obama/Kanye West joke and I consider myself a fan !

The two reviews I've read aren't kind due to the short running time and the dodgy encore that she will regret for the rest of her life!
It wasn't quite Ricky Gervais at the Diana gig but it had the same sort of feeling!
I still had a great night though.

She did that one on 8 out of 10 cats.

50 minutes for the money that was being charged? Sounds like a rip.

I was annoyed when Gervais did a similar length and his tickets were still pricey at 50% less.

I guess people moaning about the runtime should just buy dvds of stand-up shows. The whole point of going is to see the performance live. I'd rather have 30 minutes of genius than 2 hours of middling pap.

And the whole point of going to see a performance is to enjoy a night out, not just a quick sit. You could tell the audience was annoyed with Gervais as it felt like we'd barely sat down, plus his show was perhaps getting towards middling pap so it was the worst of both worlds.

Bill Bailey was much better with a set just under two hours with an interval in the middle, and it was all great. It's about the right length IMHO, I don't think anyone's asking them to match a set of Ken Dodd's...

Sounds pretty bad according to this.

I saw the 'Fame' Ricky Gervais standup on TV on Saturday and thought it was really funnier.

Made me laugh more than Dylan Morrans one.

There is no getting away from the fact that it was unique experience. :D

I was on the front row, right in the middle. Been a fan since the Larry Sanders days. I was so excited to have her up close telling me jokes (even ones I had heard a million times before).

But I can only echo the sentiments all over the net. It was just such a weird experience. Forget the missing support, being locked in the bar for nearly 2 hours before being let in, you can even forget the 50 min set (I was only really expecting 60), all of that pales into insignificance compared to the fact that she just seemed woefully underprepared, for what surely was one of the biggest gig's in her life (with the exceptions of her MTV awards presentations), in terms of audience size and expectations.

The fact that she had to have her set written down on her bar stool was bizarre. Even I knew some of her set better than she did from many viewings of Jesus is Magic. And she couldn't remember any of her songs apart from the ones she had obviously just revised beforehand. Maybe she was just really nervous, but she has been doing stand up for nearly 20 years, I just expected a bit more.

Disappointed.

Although I was booked for the front row I had no idea where my seat would be in connection to the stage.I ended up right in the flipping middle, directly opposite the lady herself!!

How strange. We were in seats 12 and 13.

That digital spy review is just plain wrong. She was not booed off stage.

Worth watching till the end for Sarah's impression of Doug stoned and Katie Couric's snort!!

Sarah tackled the subject of her childhood bed wetting a lot in that interview.
You'd almost think she knew this weeks episode focused on the very same subject!!
It was my favourite from this season anyway as it was completely mental, especially the song and dance numbers.
I actually laughed a few times during the show and loved the perilous moment when the young girl **** herself, her urine trail flowing towards the broken escalator... !!
