View Full Version : Star Wars Trilogy
The Star Wars Trilogy will not be released for aleast 6 years.Georgh Lucas said the reason beging there is not enough documenrtys and other special featurres yet.So he is going to film some new ones. The laser disc trilogy had documentrys for all 3 star wars films and a trailer. So i'am sure they can release the trilogy. Then release a Se of the redone versons of the trilogy that apeared in the cinemas 4 years ago.

This comes up every week ;) ! It has been obvious for ages it won't be out any time soon, so I bought teh vcd's for £18.
Now we just need Baps with his conspiracy theory!
Not enough stuff?
Codswollop!
If the DVD's have the contents from my Executor Tin seet of the trilogy (4 VHS tapes), and a trasfer from the IMAX documentary made when they did the "Special Editions" I would be happy.

You want a conspiracy theory? Here's one - obviously Lucas must know there is plenty of supplemental material available... for the original versions of the trilogy. So perhaps he's not planning to release these at all but is just going to put out the special editions once he's put together the extras!

The whole "Star Wars on DVD" issue angers me every time I think about it. There is no possible reason for *not* releasing the original trilogy right now.
If it is a choice between:
a) Buying rather empty versions of the DVDs now, so that we at least have the films on DVD while we wait 6 years for feature-packed Special Ultimate Limited Collector's editions,
or
b) Having nothing, and waiting 6 years for feature-packed Special Ultimate Limited Collector's editions,
I would much rather go for the first option. None of Lucasfilms reasons make sense at all! Let's shoot down all of Lucasfilm/Fox's reasons:
1. "There isn't currently enough material to make sufficient extras for DVD release."
First of all this isn't true. The laserdiscs have documentries and commentary tracks... why not use them? But why do Lucasfilm think they need to release a massive 2 or 3-disc set with tons of special features anyway? Millions of people would buy the films even if they were bare-bones DVDs! I hate it how the general public has come to expect so much from DVD special features (that they watch only once and then forget!) that Lucasfilm feel that can't release the Star Wars trilogy unless it is a massive Ultimate Special Collectors edition.
2. "Consumers hate it when they buy a DVD, then soon after a Collectors Edition with more special features comes out. Better to wait until the Special Collectors edition is ready, than to infuriate consumers by making them buy the product twice."
But this doesn't make sense. If the waiting time is going to be 6 years, then consumers will have a version of the DVDs for 6 years before upgrading to the Special Collectors editions. 6 yesr is a long time! DVD hasn't even been around for 6 years yet! It is the entire lifetime of DVD! By the time the discs are finally released, the DVD format may have been upgraded to something else! Better to have a version of the discs now, and keep them for a healthy prosperous 6 years, then upgrade. Besides -- Lucasfilm re-release the films on VHS every few years without any shame in making the public buy them again. What's all this moral conscience with the DVDs???
3. "We want to release the original trilogy on DVD when all 6 films exist, then they can all be part of a unified collection".
Oh please! So the reason we have to wait 6 years to own the original trilogy is because Lucasfilm puts priority on HOW THE CASES LOOK ON A SHELF? The way in which the films are packaged is more important than giving consumers the chance to own them in the next 6 years??? That is insane. First of all, most people would agree that the Original Trilogy and the Prequel Trilogy are two seperate sets of films, rather than a 6-part Saga; so it is crazy to wait until all 6 films exist before releasing the Original Trilogy on DVD. Next point: they released The Phantom Menace separately, so that totally contradicts their concept of waiting until all 6 films exist before releasing them on DVD.
There is NO VALID REASON to delay the release of the original trilogy on DVD. No reason! A lot of people (including a lot of people on these forums) would bitch and moan because they aren't Special Limited Ultimate 3-disc editions, and all the DVD mags and websites would give bad reviews saying, "The amount of special features is very poor". But for every idiot who thinks the discs will be "not worth buying" just because they don't have as much stuff on them as The Phantom Menace DVD, there are many many people who just want the frickin' movies on a format better than VHS!

You could try forums favourite Ringos (http://home.btconnect.com/ringos/BOXED_SET_S__etc_etc.htm), they currently have the set for £25.
STAR WARS will sell so much on DVD that there is no way George Luca$ will wait till 2006? to release the first 3 movies. My money is on this year for the first movie at least.A 25th anniversary edition anyone?also there is no doubt it would be re-released when all 6 are done, thus selling them all twice $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Luca$ just coudn't resist doing that.
