Im STILL looking for a viable smartphone to upgrade my trusty SE P910, but still hunt without joy. The HTC Touch Dual(http://www.europe.htc.com/en/products/htctouchdual.html) looks promising - I've never even heard of HTC though.
Anyone seen this phone or looking at it?
Any reason why this wont be a cracker to own?
Any thoughts on it?
HTC made the oriigianl orange m500 xda etc, it was called the magician but just rebadged so they're a decent company
I have had this phone for a few months now! Havent had a single issue with it and have to say its one of the best HTC range of phones ive had!
Would highly recommend it!

Whoops, my bad. I meant the HTC Touch Dual (brand new I think).
Are HTC is big player in the mobile phone market then?
More info Here: http://www.europe.htc.com/en/products/htctouchdual.html
Most of the windows mobile handsets are actually designed and manufactured by them and then rebadged by the operators, I've got the O2 XDA Orbit which is a repackaged HTC P3300, same goes for the tytyn which is sold as the 3100 on orange, the vario II by T mobile and the 1605 by Vodafone.
The Touch Dual looks like a cracking phone apart from one key element. It doesn't have Wi-Fi connectivity.

I quite like the HP iPAQ 514, which is similar (?) to the S730.
Can be had for just over £100 too.

There is no excuse for both the Touch Dual and S730 not having both wifi and GPS. I've seen some pictures of the S730 with GPS but that was a pre-production model.
Has anyone else had problems with the HTC Windows Mobile companion CD? Won't launch and keeps telling me that my Flash player is corrupted which it isn't, also tried it on the PC downstairs with the same result.
any ideas?
for anyone else having this problem the HTC Getting Started disc only recognizes v8.0 of Flash so the lastest version shows up as corrupted. Just download ActiveSync seperately.

It doesn't have the slide out keyboard though. One of my friends at works in an area with colleagues who were given them for free. I asked about getting one and he said the feedback was that they were not that good. That did surprise me as the web reviews I've seen for it are good.

Got a load of these HTC Touch (not dual) phones in at work now and got to say they are stunning (for certain users).
It's one of the best looking smartphones/pocketpcs ever to come out, so thin and so light. Easily get 2-3 days usage out of it without having to charge it up, unlike most smartphones which need charging daily or almost daily if you actually use them for calls/data. It's a shame that it doesn't have GPS as I love being able to run Google Maps on my TyTN and see where I am, but really would need 3G as well in order to download the map data at sensible speeds. Anyway it looks like we will be handing loads of these out to staff who just need a *lightweight* device to read emails on as soon as they are sent, and make the odd call ... GPRS only is fine for downloading emails. We expect to offer staff that need modem access or those that prefer a few buttons at the expense of the slight extra size/weight the Dual if T-Mobile ever get around to offering it.

The phone networks make HTC take stuff out like wifi and 3G, so that no one phone is the "ultimate" phone that everyone wants, and they get to offer a range instead .
I expect that HTC quite like this artificial state of affairs too since it lets them appear to offer a range of devices rather than one "does everybloodything" amazing device.
Currently the TyTN II is the "Daddy" of the range, in that it has everything - but because it has the full keyboard too, is quite big and heavy. If the Touch or Touch Dual both had wifi, GPS and 3G then nobody would buy the TyTN II because of it's weight - most people find Transcriber or the on screen keyboard perfectly adequate after a while, so the built in full keyboard becomes something that most can actually do without. Hence the Touch and Touch Dual are feature limited compared to the TyTN II.

Why not just make the ultimate smartphone though? Apple make the ultimate MP3 player and their market share is pretty healthy, when they can get an 80Gb device down to the size of the Nano they won't need a range of devices either.
Still the only thing that the Touch is missing is GPS and I can do without it. I've had my Touch about a week now and I couldn't do without it! The Wi-fi is superb for indoors surfing as is Windows Live so I can check my hotmail.
I've been told by work IT that this brand of Push email isn't compatible with the Enterprise servers that we use for company Blackberries!:(
Does anyone know how the use fingertip scrolling when browsing? It just seems to highlight text on web pages when I do it.
