"They’re tungsten-tipped screws, claws. Right, error one – actually, they’re quite good for making a point, aren’t they? Error one, right, Frankenstein was the name of the creator, not the monster. Error two, right, Frankenstein is a zombie. He’s a type of zombie. It’s like people who say Tannoy when they mean public-address system. Tannoy is a brand name. Why are you all staring at me? I’m not having a go at anyone, I’m having a pop at the undead. Do you see any upset zombies around?"
ok how long do you think i should hang on to mine then :D at these prices i wouldn't mind selling!

If I could guarantee £70 I could be tempted to put my copy up. Should be noted however that the most commonly achieved price is £35-£45.

play UK are showing the complete series tonight if anyone's interested.. or you could buy my DVD copy for 70 quid if you like ;)
If you were some unscrupulous retailer somewhere which has a stash of these left you could clean up!
I own this DVD...how come its become so valuable?
Was it withdrawn? Why?
It seems fine to me. Am I missing something?

Copyright issues were involved - the discs themselves are fine.
what sort of copyright issues? how many were sold?

Think it was something to do with U2 in one of the episodes. I cannot remember off the top of my head!

£72 for the DVD is absolutely bonkers. I have enjoyed the series on TV, overplayed the 2 VHS tapes, and wallowed in having it on DVD. I can't remember one difference, let alone one that would make the DVD so collectable. Its not even that it has been withdraw for ever, the series should be re-released this year (probably with more production company involvement (ie extras), wasn't this the issue, that they weren't consulted about the release?), and if I'm cynical probably to tie in with the next series (which was probably delayed by the generally dire Horrors thing).

I was last week, but I had to move back to R'lyeh after a drinking game with the Hutts got out of hand.
i'd like this to have this DVD but i can wait for a re-release and whatever is missing(if anything) is just not gonna be worth paying that much for it.
I watched them all again last night on UKPlay. So my DVD may be heading off to ebay. Not even watched it yet...

I am quite certain this disc was NOT withdrawn due to copyright reasons. Instead it was allegedly withdrawn because a particular artiste objected to some aspects of the presentation of the material after the disc was released.

pjn - in answer to your question.... I don't know the full details but my understanding is that a certain person's approval was not sought before release (I'm sure you can guess who I mean) - they didn't like it (I think they wanted more of a special edition but I could be mistaken on that) and they subsequently demanded it was not released - so all copies were withdrawn. In short a very costly oversight to say the least and one which aunty will be unlikely to repeat in a hurry.

From here... (http://www.alan-partridge.co.uk/index2.htm)
The I'm Alan Partridge DVD Dilema...
Have any of you tried to buy I'm Alan Partridge on DVD recently? If so, I bet you haven't been able to get your hands one.
On the 16th October (8 days after release), the BBC decided to recall all the copies still unsold from retailers. I was lucky enough to preorder my copy, and it came on the 8th October. Well worth the money.
Anyway, for those of you who didn't get a copy, you'll be pleased to know that the BBC are re-releasing it early next year, and it will be an 'enhanced version', possibly meaning more features, better quality sound/picture etc. It's up to your interpretation.
Stuart Snaith of BBC Worldwide said "We have regrettably encountered a problem with clearances on this disc". Apparently Steve Coogan had rights issues with some of the material that appeared on the DVD release, possibly relating to the 'alan add-on' feature (extra 20 minutes of unseen footage) - thanks to alanpartridge.cjb.net for the extra info on the recall.
