The Big Bang Theory (http://www.tv.com/the-big-bang-theory/show/58056/summary.html?q=&tag=search_results;title;1)
actually quite liked this. wasn't trying to be anything special and more importantly didn't treat it's audience like idiots. Sheldon looks like he's gonna get the killer lines and darlene's boyfriend looks like the straight man. the two friends were pretty funny too. CBS have given this a great slot between how i met your mother and two and a half men, so they must want big things from it. definitely watch again.
didn't treat it's audience like idiots.
Unless you count a laughter track to some incredibly insipid material as treating us as idiots. Sadly it's par for the course in a lot of sitcoms nowdays. The actual laugh content is very low, I mean they should be able to come up with one laugh in 20mins of a pilot. They seemed to feel that throwing a few "wacky" characters in there is enough

Humour is subjective. Especially Geek humour.
I watched the first 2 episodes of these last night and laughed throughout - especially the 2nd one.
Yes, the laugh track was intrusive but if that's the worst thing that can happen to someone's day, then it's a pretty sweet life.
First funny new show since How I Met Your Mother.
It wasn't intrusive, they just needed it to cover up the lack of funny bits.
I'm not sure why you say it was "Geek humour". Humour is humour, it's all pretty much the same thing
andybhoy
06-10-2007, 11:01
Humour is not pretty much all the same thing, otherwise we'd all laugh at exactly the same jokes. Is all music the same?
As I said, it was funny throughout - it just isn't your type of humour.
My type of humour? Well yeah, I tend not to find jokes that a 7 year old would roll their eyes at that funny. I expect it on a lolly stick but not on a tv sitcom. It's not just this show, a lot of shows (and films) are just not funny and they compensate with a laughter track (which actually works on some people) or "goofy" characters.

I'm finding it watchable so far, but I wouldn't go so far to say it was funny. Didn't realise it replaced the Class, which I also found watchable, but not particularly funny :D

Just read that this has been picked up for a full season, have to agree I did find it very funny especially the second episode. And it was nice to see Darlene from Roseanne make a appearance.
Quite funny so far. I think geeks will find it funnier though. My favourite moment so far has been the Superman conversation in episode 2.
BTW, I consider myself a geek. I'm not saying geeks will find it funnier than me.

I find myself pleasantly surprised. I had initially slated this in my blog but I'm surprised (and delighted) that some of the jokes are quite high-brow and not catering purely to the science people are weird humour which I fully expected.
The superman joke was a classic and is a good example of this.
Episode 5 was by far the funniest tho..
I saw the advert for this on E4 and it looked funny, so I watched some, and I think it is pretty funny.

Pretty funny show, although one of the lead character's is really unlikeable (Sheldon)
I think it starts on Channel 4 on Thursday night.
watched up to ep5
not the greatest sitcom ever made, but the geek in me really likes it
(unlike Carpoolers which is ****)

just found all the characters annoying (even Jerry O'Connoll)
but yes, I guess Marmaduke is the best of a bad bunch
quite liked it when they sing on the way to work though
maybe I'll give it another go

My favourite has to be the one where they open with them playing some LAN game on their laptops. But the best episode is the one where Raj goes on a date, very funny.
Stumbled on this show halfway through an episode on E4 and found it pretty funny.
Have caught up on all the episodes and while some are definitely better than others, overall I'm enjoying it.
I love how it's a Roseanne reunion. We've got Darlene's boyfriend, Darlene herself and also Jackie! I'm waiting for Dan or D.J. to show up next!
This would be better without the laughter track. I used to enjoy Friends up until series 7 but it ruined it for me. It's a shame they don't make these shows without a laughter track on DVD cause they ar ewatchasble but not with a laughter track.
What happened to the live studio audiences?

This is a show I totally dismissed at first (well it is from the people who make Two And A Half Men :gag:) but it has definitely grown on me - I think Raj is the best character but they tend to put him in the background.
zantarous
23-04-2008, 20:13
Yeah he is more like the comic relife when needed but he and Howard steal the show.
If epsiode 14 is the this weeks epsiode then I haven't seen it yet, but even if the show is not as funny as it was to begin with this and How I met you mother are two shows that are on the top of my watch list each week.
13 this week isn't it? the quiz teams one yeah?

A: I can't believe they ended it there, it almost felt like there was another 10 minutes or so to go, but a very good episode.
B: I am not so sure that getting them together so early is a great idea then again having season after season of Lenard pinning for Penny would get boring.
I really enjoyed this series. Weird ending it 17 episodes into a run though. Not quite sure where things will go in the next season though.

Sara Gilbert Makes a Bigger Bang on CBS Sitcom

Sara Gilbert in The Big Bang Theory by Justin Lubin/CBS
The geek squad groweth. Sara Gilbert, who guested a few times during The Big Bang Theory's inaugural season, has been bumped up to full-fledged series regular status for Season 2.
At last month's Comic-Con, series cocreator Chuck Lorre revealed that Gilbert would be back for "a bunch more episodes," but he must have since decided that nerdesse Leslie Winkle is truly needed in the mix — especially since it sounds like Leonard might still be on the market. (See this week's Mega Minute vodcast for more on that.)
Of course, Gilbert and Johnny Galecki (aka Leonard) previously played love interests on Roseanne.

ok, so season two started last night and it was pretty good i thought. sheldon is really the stand out character, he just kills me. jim parsons is really quite brilliant in this role:notworthy
it looks like they're already pulling out of the leonard/penny thing as it was obvious it would ruin the dynamic of the show.
kaley looks devastating as usual. christ she is smoking hot.:luv::doh:
Sheldon trying to keep the secret was brilliant. His facial ticks are so funny. Reminds me of the gameshow episode from Season 1 where he just can't comprehend not knowing the answer to a question.
it looks like they're already pulling out of the leonard/penny thing as it was obvious it would ruin the dynamic of the show.
I'm not so sure. There's plenty of mileage in the relationship, and I think if they cut off any idea of romance then it kills the dynamic in a completely different way.

just watched it and I thought that Jim Parsons performance was one of the finest comedic performances I've seen in years.
From the inane folding of the clothes, to the facial ticks and the valium induced confession, it was fantastic. All done with a straight face.
Penny / Leonard, meh dont really care about them aside from Ms Cuoco's obvious charms. They are just a vehicle for more Sheldon and Wolowitz.

i had to watch that scene a couple of times as i simply kept forgetting to listen to any dialogue.
My only real complaint with this show is Raj still not being able to talk to Penny unless he's drunk.
Not too bad this week. Some dodgy outfits on Penny, though one did emphasise her breasts which do seem to be getting slightly bigger.
Would really like to see a season finale where Sheldon and Leslie end up sleeping together for whatever reason and the aftermath......their hate/hate relationship seems to be going that way in my opinion.

Nice to see Leonard getting lucky again. whether it will last is anyone's guess.
The girl is the main star from Less Than Perfect. I thought this episode was a return to form after a recent lull. The letter right at the end was class. For those who didn't spot it:
Dear George Lucas,
May I call you Mr Lucas? On behalf of the writers of The Big Bang Theory I would like to thank you for your astounding body of work, which has awakened the child within us and unleashed our dreams. That being said, we hope you don't take offense at our good-natured jest regarding your most recent animated efforts. Yes they were cheap shots, but we can't help but hold you to a higher standard - a standard of your own making. In closing, we are all looking forward to Indiana Jones 5 - The Curse of the Golden Catheter. Oops, sorry again.

It seemed like it was a Christmas episode from season one.
The girlfriend still has not turned up again yet, seems quite strange now as it has been a couple of episodes with no mention of her. It is like she never happened.
Your right, I'd completely forgotten about her.
They split up even though they apparently had break-up sex. I'm assuming this caused us viewers to then jump into a parallel universe where these events never happened.
Usual thing with US comedy shows. Bring some love interest in and then discard without a trace after a few episodes eg Helen Baxendale and Paget Brewster's characters in Friends.

This weeks episode (US) is possibly the best yet, Leonard's mother and Sheldon together were excellent and the scene with Leonard in bed with Penny was one of the funniest yet

Definetly one of the best eps laugh out loud funny especially Lenord's mums assesment of Wallowitz and Raj
I think the show has been consistently brilliant.. This week's episode was excellent. This is one of the shows I look forward to the most at the moment.
Did expect Sheldon and the mother to end up in bed although the scene where they were pondering whether or not they should do something made it fairly obvious that wasn't going to happen.
Nice bra on Penny in bed :)
I showed an episode to a engineer friend and he didnt like it. Thought it was ridiculously stereotyped especially Howard.
I think its great and this last episode I was half expecting to find out that she was Sheldons mother.

Just had a massive catch up last night, am loving this series now its moved past the overly Sheldon focused episodes, though Lenny was going go finally get his end away with Penny but soo close, Love the Mrs Wolowitch/Lesley interactions in the lastest  shame next weeks is the last in the series (US), anyone know is S3 is planned?

Good el, last weeks was better though!
"I have eleven hours with her in a confined space. Unless she's willing to jump off a moving train and tuck and roll down the side of a hill, she will eventually succumb to the acquired taste that is Howard Wolowitz."
Or 2x15 with Lenards mother.

Very funny this week as well.
"Well DTS has more low end soo....... okay" I think that's the best line delivery Leonard has ever done in the show. The stuff between Sheldon and Penny was good this week also.
I thought it was probably my favourite episode of Seson 2 so far, I always love the interaction between Penny and Sheldon.
Plus this was classic
Wolowitz: "Penny; Let me take this opportunity to point out that you are looking particularly ravishing today."
Penny: "Not with a thousand condoms, Howard."
Wolowitz: "So there is a number."

Good episode again this week although the comic book story was pretty much identical to a recent episode of Heroes. Same with the ending - they've done that before during the Halloween episode.
Enjoyed the oblivious coffee bit.
Thought this was one of the best episodes of the season. The geek reference quotient was particularly high. :)
Penny is the blue dress look great, she has amazing thighs :luv:
Summer Glu was cute as hell as well, she has such beautiful big eyes and a cute nose.
Great show over all and got over the "Typical, stereotyping geeks again" as i class myself as one and aren’t useless socially like this lot. But got into it and found it really funny. I'm ashamed to say i understand a lot of the physics stuff they chat about but a few times it turns into 'trekbabble' and it's just non-sense.
I wish they just get penny and leo together and stick with it. It would be nicer to see it buck a trend of US comedies and have a successful relationship work for once. I think i would be board of seeing another season of penny and a parade of men and leo pining away until he gets over it, then penny suddenly pining for leo out of the blue, they've done that for 2 seasons in a row now.
I've love you tell you what I thought of the new episode but I was distracted by a couple of things......

I've heard they start dating proper this season. You get your wish. When I saw the bit at the end I though they are going to have one of those "getting over the weirdness" episodes. They did that in Friends a couple of times.

In Raj's case though, he doesn't need to be drunk, only for beer to have passed his lips. It's a psychological thing rather than a physical thing. He could have only had one bottle of beer. Plus light beer could mean low alcohol too.
Yeah,
this was confirmed in the episode with Summer Glau in it, he was drinking alcohol free beer without knowing and could talk to her, and then when he found out he couldn't speak.

Superb episode. Not least for Penny's post-coitus outfit.
The montage was awesome though!!
finally after 2 and a bit seasons of nerdy facts and figures etc etc I spotted a nerd mistake...
At the beginning Sheldon says he doesn't understand the film as they were told not to feed the Gremlins after midnight
And as we all know you are not meant to feed the Mogwai after midnight otherwise they BECOME Gremlins...
HA
sad I know but I am constantly impressed by the attention to nerd-detail so I like to pick things out hehe
(actually come to think of it I am pretty sure I spotted a dodgy trek reference in Season 2.. so forget this post!)
The thing that always confused me about Gremlins was he was told not to feed Mogwai after midnight - but not when he could feed him again.
Shouldn't he have been told "Don't feed Mogwai between Midnight and about half 8ish" ?

From the CEO of the company on their forum :
"There’s been a bunch of discussion here about why we’ve ended InDigital, and I just want to set the record straight.
Although InDigital has been a fun show, as Revision3 has grown we’ve realized that the best way to move forward is to have all of our in-house shows produced in our new facilities in San Francisco. We’re building a new studio that will give us tremendous economies of scale and competitive advantage, but it is located here in the bay area (see more on the Revision3 Gazette, and watch the studio being constructed live via our studio cams).
We’ve been clear with Hahn for almost a year that he would need to move to San Francisco to continue working at Revision3, and producing InDigital. Back in July, Hahn decided not to move to San Francisco, and we realized that InDigital could not proceed without Hahn.
Although we considered continuing InDigital in San Francisco, with Jessica Corbin, Wil Wheaton and Patrick Norton, we realized that it would be fairest to Hahn – who created the show – and to our viewers if we developed a new show that included some of the best of InDigital, but was able to chart its own course."

Good episode. Though the Starbuck scene would have played out better if they hadn't made her say 'masturbatory'. The fact it was a fantasy and the soap gag at the end was enough of a hint IMO.
