Hi, my friend has bought a Dansai DVD player and was curious if it would play American dvd's on it ? I know some DVD players you can get with "region free" but I'm not sure if the one he has will play other than region 2.

Hi, Welcome to the forums MrDigital :D
Heres the remote hack for Dansai's:
1. Press the Setup button on your remote control
2. Press the Stop button on the front panel of your unit
3. Press the Previous button on the front panel of your unit
4. Press the Next button on the front panel of your unit
5. You should now be in a secret menu where you can change the region from 1 to 6, or Bypass for region free
6. You can also disable Macrovision from this menu

Thanks for a warm welcome :D And thanks for the reply so quickly, I'll try that out on Monday at my friends. May I say what a good forum this is  very well recommended ;) .
I also have a Samsung dvd/cd drive and use Cyberlink dvd program running it. Apparentely I get 5 goes at setting the region on this? Is there a way around this, or am I expecting too much in one day:D :D ?

have a read thru http://faq.inmatrix.com/ and download driveinfo to check the status of your drive, then check http://www.firmware.fr.st/ to see if they have RPC-1 (region free) firmware for your drive. This makes your drive region free but you'll need DVDGenie (or similar) to oversome the 5 changes that windows allow.
