Got this cheap is the sales a few weeks ago and have not yet sat down to watch it. What,s the difference between the 2 versions (apart from 16:9/4:3). Is the TV version the same as the WS version ?

TV version has about an extra 10-15 mins of footage that they included because they needed to fill a 2hr slot on American TV.
some of the content was deemed too much for broadcast television in the 70's so in fact the tv version is more sanitised.
Watch the shorter version disc1 as it would have been seen on its cinematic run.

The TV version on the disc isn't sanitised at all - it is the whole theatrical version, with extra scenes Carpenter filmed for it while making Halloween II - because with all the scenes that would need to be cut for TV transmission, the movie might end up too short for it's time slot - these extra scenes were to make up that time.
The one on the disc is the complete pre-TV cuts version.

so its not actually the TV version then ? ;)
I've read somewhere that it's a combination of both.
It includes all the scenes that were cut for the TV version and all the scenes that were filmed especially for the TV version.
Dying to see this - bought it in the sales - problems with availablility though - still waiting...

If I remember correctly, the quality of the TV version (disc 2) is slightly lower, doesn't include the 5.1 remix, and the extra scenes aren't really all that. In fact, one of them contains a major spoiler for Halloween 2.

Yeah, the TV version doesn't have the 5.1 mix.
