I've been buying Digital Photographer for the last few months now and I'm loving it. Its got some excellent articles and shots. Are there any other good ones? Do you read any?

I tend to buy one when i've got a decent length train journey ahead of me otherwise I find the internet to be just as good a repository of information.

I wasn't going to bother with any but bought Digital Camera when I first got my 400D back in July. I enjoyed reading it so subscribed but will probably cancel after a year. I find it quite good, there's plenty of info for inexperienced photographers and several decent Photoshop tutorials both on disk and in the mag. OK there's nothing I couldn't get from the internet but it's nice to sit down away from the PC and have a read.

I did buy Photography monthly last week from a boot sale, someone was selling a load of sealed current issues, it was ok but I prefer Digital Camera.

I subscribe to Practical Photography which is decent enough and has inspired me a few times to try out some new things.

I have just this week ordered some back issues of Foto8 magazine (http://www.foto8.com/index1.html) as it is supposed to be very good.

I subscribe to 2 - Digital Camera and Digital Photo - and still enjoy them both

I used to subscribe to Practical Photography but recently cancelled as I found they tend to repeat themselves a fair amount after a while. Still, it's a good bet for about a year!

I tend to read Amateur Photographer on and off. It tends to have more interesting articles than the monthly mags - I get bored with the stock 'how to shoot landscape/still-life/macro' articles you tend to get in most of the mags.

Amerteur Photographer is ok, but its a very very short read, I find. They cover film a bit, but are mega keen on Making the photo "Better" through photoshop. Frankly I'd rather go into the composition more. I rarely do any significant digital manipulation.

Probably my favorite mag is "Black and White Photographer". At least giving even time between film and digital, if not more on the film side. Rare these days. Also fairly in depth coverage of photographers, particularly the magnum series they've been doing recently.
Some fantastic photography in there :)

I subscribe to Photography Monthly (it has just gone through a revamp-will check it's progress to see if it is still worth having) and I also buy Practical Photography regularly. I have won some software from one of it's compos and also I had to buy this months issue because I'm in it! ;)

Tell us more Lee...

I followed a tutorial printed in a previous magazine and was quite pleased with the result so I emailed them a brief letter along with the picture. And they printed it on the letters page:

Just noticed on the DCMag website (http://www.dcmag.co.uk) that you get a free Lowepro Orion Trekker II (worth £38 at warehouse-express) when you subscribe to Digital Camera magazine.

Sorely tempted.

I subscribe to Photography Monthly and professional photographer. I'm thinking of cancelling Photography Monthly as it starting to repeat itself.

I've canned the lot - I used to sub to Professional Photographer and Digital Photo Pro but feel they're both expensive for what they are.

Sorely tempted.

I subscribed last month and I'm expecting my first copy any day now, according to customer services at Future Publishing when I called this morning.

I also asked about the Lowepro bag, but was told the offer had finished and I wouldn't be getting it. :?: I explained that the incentive "offer" was one of the reasons that I took up the subscription, but they didn't seem interested and more or less said tough, and wouldn't offer an alternative.

A "supervisor" is supposed to be ringing me back, but I can't see it making a jot of difference. If I get no call today I'll call them tomorrow and tell them where to stick their subscription!

Yep.... toys everywhere!

I ordered at the end of August and have just received the bag and my first issue. How much was the sub? I'd get back in touch with them as I'm sure I've seen a sub offer cheaper minus a free gift. I think in the small print it says they can substitute the item for the latest offer which is now a Manfrotto monopod so you should still get a free gift.

I know the sub is cheaper minus the gift, and I'm going to clobber them with that if/when the "supervisor" rings back.

Reading the DCMag forums it appears that Future Publishing CS don't even know the stock levels of incentive gifts, so they can't guarantee that you'll get any gift at all. Muppets!!

I sometimes buy a magazine if I am bored but rarely. I subscribe to Ag Magazine (http://www.picture-box.com/) which is quarterly and a very good read.........not cheap though!!

Foto8 are currently having a back issue sale HERE (http://www.foto8.com/cat--Back-Issues--EI8HT_backissues.html) and while still pricey at £3.50 each I would definitely recommend trying an issue or two as the quality of photography, as well as the mag itself, is superb.

It is pure photojournalism so don't buy if expecting hints, tips and projects :)

*goes off to order a few more issues

I sometimes get them depending on whats being covered

Problems for me can be
1 Features aimed at SLR cameras
2 Tutorials which start great and then say about using filters
3 Repeats from other mags, or stuff they've covered before

The better parts are
1 Inspiration
2 Tips
3 Tutorials (many are good, despite above comments)

After accepting an extra free copy of Digital Camera Magazine in my first year, to make up for the no-show of the free gift, what should show up today?

Yep a Lowepro Orion Trekker II.

Now that's a result! :D

I'm very pleased with my Orion bag, in fact I'll probably sell my Pretty Boy XXL crumpler now rather than keep both.

I see that you can now use your clubcard vouchers for a couple of mags.

Digital Photo Magazine is £16.22 of ccv's

Practical Photography is £12.03 of ccv's

Doubt that you'll get a free gift, but a good deal anyway.
