Interesting. Claims being made that it's gone none of the flaws of Faroudja (e.g. macroblocking), and some perhaps bold claims of it being "state of the art" upscaling.

Out around the end of the year (US I assume, so when it would be available here I don't know). $300-349 price estimates. Also features SACD (DVD-A?), and has a USB2 port (so does that mean it can play DivX via USB??).

Interesting also the comments in there about the Tosh HD DVD player having the same chipset. Makes me wonder if just getting an HD DVD player with upscaling is the right way to go instead of just looking for an upscaling DVD player.

If you don't mind being stuck with a Region 2 only player I suppose.

Yeah, surely there's a hack though.

There are no hacks. There's only one HD player (the first samsung BD machine) that has a hack to make the DVD drive region free, but it's not a very good upscaler for DVDs.

Looks like I'm waiting then :(. Shame as I'm starting to think of getting an HD-DVD player now it's looking more positive as a format (certainly one that won't be going away any time soon), and there are titles now being released I'm interested in, but don't want to then spend several hundred also on an upscaling DVD player if a (or some) HD-DVD player will do just as good a job.
