Just thought I'd let you all know about some great news. I entered one of my pictures in to the BBC Countryfile competition (the lamb) and its one of the 12 finalists so it will be going in the 2008 calender! I almost forgot as the comp has been open since April and I only entered last week, 3 days before the closing date!
I'm really pleased as you can imagine so thought I'd share the news :D
If it's the one I think it is then that was a great shot, good luck.
 Congratulations, great pic & it must be ace to know other people appreciate your work.

Well done silverpenqiun7 :)

Well done. I have entered a few into a regional BBC photo competition but that one has closed since the rigging scandal of some competitions made them close it (until further notice).
So thanks a lot Blue Peter! ;)
Congrats again silverpenguin! :)

Congratulations - I've seen the Countryfile competition in past years and the quality of the finalists is always extremely high, so that's some achievement!

Nicely done Richard.
Do you have a linky to the pic anywhere?

Thanks all. The BBC requested I remove it from Flickr whilst the competition is announced so for now I have set it to private so nobody can view it on there.
Hope they're paying you for it if they're demanding you remove any copys you have on the web!

I think its just to make sure one image doesn't have the chance of being seen more than the others in the run up to voting, to give everyone an even chance.
Just seen your post and turned bbc1 on now and looks like they're running down the pics now.
Oh and well done, care to link to the pic?
Congratulations. Watching BBC now.

There you go.
Great pic
Can't find the finalists up on their site (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sn/tvradio/programmes/countryfile/) yet though :(

I expect the site will be updated soon. Some really nice shots in the final 12!!
I've just tried the site and they're still showing the pics from 2006. I just caught the very end of the show but by then I'd missed then discussing the pics and they were just going through the phone numbers :(
Your pic might do very well as it's a perfectly timed shot and has the awww factor. I can see a lot of people voting for it.
The 3 fox cubs may prove to be the major competition.
I don't recall that one, I must have missed it.

Excellent news - well done!
I had to dash out before your shots came on but thank goodness for the PVR. Grabbed a copy of it and viewed the final 12. Some stiff competition but I think you're easy in the top 50% of those shots that are shortlisted if not top 30%.

Just seen the photo - it really does deserve to win and I think it's got the "awww" factor that will win the non-photographer vote as well as the perfect capture to lure in the lens-heads.

I noticed actually, when they have the final 12 on the little stands, there are a couple of pictures that are different to the ones that you can actually vote for. I wonder if some people pulled out or something?!
Also, I noticed when they held mine up and had a tight shot of it on screen, you can see CP's hand waving around in front of it like he's talking about it but when they cut to the wide shot he's hands were nowhere near it. I want to know what they cut out of the show dammit!! lol
Nice shot - saw the prog on sunday before seeing this thread so i can be honest when I say it's a cracking shot - well done.
My personal fave is the "wet & wild" deer though (sorry - but the good news is that I don't vote for these things anyway ;))
All twelve photos are to feature in the Countryfile Calendar 2008 sold in aid of the BBC's Children In Need appeal. That's damn cool. Only thing is the pic they have on the BBC website has horrid compression artifacts compared to the other photos.

Good luck!
Just had an email from your sister about this. Small world ;)
that's brilliant, that was my favourite. I hope you win the top prize - we'll get to see you on telly!

Yeah, I think it's got the cutesy element that the general public will go all soppy about. It'd be my favourite - I find nature photography boring in general, but the 'action' puts it in a different league.
Well done, lad!
You have my vote!
