Thinking of buying a Sigma 10-20mm lens. Has anyone got any views on this lens? Any good? read a few reviews and cannot justify the extra expense of the Canon 10-22mm. Should I wait and save more cash and go for Canon??

I've read a couple of group tests in recent mags and the Sigma has either come out on top or got a "best buy" award.

I like mine, not as sharp on occasion as I'd want but a good price.

Very well reviewed. Definitely a great lens at a great price.

Its an excellent lens if you don't mind manky corners... if you only print small or display 800x533 I guess this isn't a problem.

I've used all 5 of SWA lenses, and its the worse performer for corner sharpness - at least if my samples are telling the truth - corners improve as you go less wide.

You can certainly take some very nice pictures with it, no question.

Well I really like mine, but I can't say I'm much of an expert on lens sharpness and stuff! You can see some of my pics taken with it here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/petewilliams/tags/sigma1020mm)

Do a search, there's about 2-3 couple of page long threads from recent months. I love mine

For the price Onestop do the Canon 10-22 I think I would save up the extra and get that, but the Sigma is definately worth considering if cost is an issue.

I love mine. I saw one review which said the Sigma had better edge sharpness but heard others say its the other way around. Maybe the reviewers had a bad Canon?

Numbers on lens cinfuse me.

What does this one do? I'll take a pot shot that it's a wide angle?

From the Sigma site:
Super wide-angle zoom lens designed exclusively for digital SLR cameras.

Ah cheers.

What's the point of wide angled lenses when you can just stand further back and crop the picture after :D

Sometimes you can't back up... for this shot in Antelope Canyon for example, which is only 2 yards wide.

And this really did need to be at 12mm!

And you don't *have* shoot extreme wide either, just because you have a wide-angle, 20mm to 24mm is getting towards more conventional angles.

EDIT - These are all shot with a Tokina 12-24 *not* the Sigma 10-20 (which I sold a while back), but you get the point - sometimes you can't backup.

Damnit man. lovely pics. And I've just expressed thoughts about not buying the Tokina 10-17mm...(which incidently, gets cracking reviews from the underwater crowd for being unexpectedly good as a macro as well)

damn you.

Just for info the sigma does fit on FF cameras tho vignettes badly.
