Looks like the ACR update just adds support for new cameras (including the 40D) rather than any tweaks under the hood.

It does seem to work better generally, although "Automatically write changes to XMP" is still borked, with high CPU usage.

Unfortunately as I have a mix of Canon CR2, Fuji RAF, and Nikon NEF, its the only app that will handle all three!
