Me and a few mates are going to the lake district in the middle of october to get a chance to take some photos.

I have been a few times with my wife but stuck to fairly obvious places. She get a bit bored with all my time fiddling with my lenses :D

Can anyone suggest good spots for some shooting? Good sunrise/sunset locations would be helpful as you really need to be there before the "action"

My girlfriend took me to a hotel on a lake there that faced onto a mountain. Fabulous views.

Wasn't bad outside either ;)

I'll see if I can remember the place.

Ashness Bridge near Keswick, could be one of the most photographed landscapes in the UK.

It can be located by taking the narrow road to Watendlath, a left-turn off the B5289 beside Derwent Water, about three miles south of Keswick. Do an image search for it, trust me it's worth going.

And just a bit further up the hill is suprise view. While you are in the area go and see the bowder stone.

I like Wast Water. It's the deepest lake in England and has views of Scafell and Scafell Pike (highest peak in England).

Then go for a scary drive up hardknott pass and stop off at the roman fort half way up. ;)

There's pretty good views from the top of Scafell pike too! assuming it's not too cloudy..

I'm planning to go on a 9 day cycling trip end of October - anyone camped there at that time of year, or is it going to be getting chilly?

We camped there in August before and it wasn't particularly warm, so I'm going with chilly

There are just so many places, just about anywhere is fantastic.

My own personal favourite places are in Great Langdale, just drive along from Ambleside to the head of the valley and onwards a couple of miles and you can take your pick of fantastic scenery (the Langdale peaks have my favourite profile of all of the Lake District). You probably won't get great sunsets from there though.

I remember the Hardknott Pass as terrifying at 50mph, but a lovely 30mph Sunday type drive. No idea why I was trying to hurltle along it before I had the common sense to slow down and enjoy the views.
Grassmere is very picturesque as well.
