View Full Version : 40d?
Is anyone thinking of getting a 40D?
My 20D has served me well and given me good service and value for money and I think it's time for an upgrade

I have a 30D, only the 9 points cross focusing interest/benefit me so not going to upgrade just for that. I can see why a 20D owner would, the screen size itself is a big difference, but not so much from a 30D. Weather sealing is no more than some tape in the edges.

Faster better AF, bigger screen, liveview, better viewfinder, 14bit raws etc, lots to upgrade for.
But isnt the ol 5D only a few hunner more..? :D
I can't afford anything at the moment as I'm saving upto move house. However, if I have any money left afterwards then yes I'm tempted to upgrade from my 20D. Partly for the sensor cleaning as I seem to spend as long cleaning my sensor as I do taking photos

The 40D looks nice, but the 5D can be had for around £1000 on import... I know what I'd do!
Really thinking of selling my 350D and a lens to afford the 40D, the 5D is lovely but I like my current lens line up too much to change to FF.
I'd probably get around £300-£350 for my 350D and 28-105 3.5-4.5 MKII unless I'm very out of touch, yes? So an extra £430 min. to find, which isn't too bad, but not this month. :(

Getting one tomorrow.

But I don't want FF for a couple of reasons a)I have a couple of EFS lenses which I like b)I like the extra reach I get on my telephoto and c)I'm using the best of my glass now so why would I want to show up flaws at the edges ;)

Fair points there Sam - it was the lens choices (along with the Nikon D3 announcement), that stopped me getting a MKIII a week or so back. I was -> <- *that* close...
I suspect you don't really believe point C

But isnt the ol 5D only a few hunner more..? :DI do sports photography though and from what I read the 5D isn't as suited to that as the 20,30 or 40D is.

upgraded from my 350D to a 40D and loving it.
Got it for £698 price matched and store credit from OneStop Digital (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://www.onestop-digital.com/) so significantly below the price of a 5D :)

going to keep a eye on this thread .
As been thinking of upgradeing but not shure on to which canon.
I was going to start to save for the mkIII but that quite expensive so 40d looks more near.
5d not shure on that it been out over a year now so how long before they update it!
but i could save up also due my bonus in November so could be possible but £3000 as to £799 or even say£1400 for the 5d

If you believe the rumours, the 5D replacement is imminent??
I will be upgrading from my 20D to the 40D sometime, probably early next year.

The renewal cycles for the 5D has actually gone about 6 months ago, currently it's the longest body out that hasn't had a replacement or Mark II version in Canon's current line up so far. So it makes sense that the next body that comes out would be a 5D MKII, considering we've just had a 40D, 400D (last year), 2 1 series. Only thing left is the 5D.
So is it a good idea to buy a brand new model on or near the release date?
I know a friend of mine bought a 10D only to see it superceeded by the 20D very soon after...

that line shouldn't really be there, so if you take away that line, it's "shelf life" will last another 4-6 months. Unless it doesn't get a replacement in the next Canon announcement thingy.

A couple of friends at work have got 40Ds. Have to say I'm even more impressed than I thought I would be - it's a seriously nice piece of kit. When the price drops below £600 I don't think I'm gonna be able to resist!
I thought it was 6.5fps?Is it? Doesn't matter anyhow, it's fast!
