A good free gig for Vodafone / T4. The security guard wouldn't let me in with my camera so had to watch from outside the barriers :oh-hum:
Other people were allowed in with SLRs, but my 70-210 f2.8 + 2x tele made it look "professional" aparently
Not really had a play with the pics yet, just a couple of crops and made some a little brighter

I predicted a riot when these ravers turned up

When he asked if you were a pro you should have said "Na-na-na-na-na".

I frigging hate these photo rules. If it was pro, I'd have spent a lot more than the £2000 i spent already on my camera ;)

sent them in to the local Blackpool paper and they have published them in the follow up story and dropped the ones from their official photographer
I hope you've billed them.

I hope you've billed them.
I should have done, maybe next time :)
So you sent photos for free, which the paper used instead of a pro's who would have got paid? How would you feel if your boss wouldn't pay you because they'd got someone who would do your job for free as long as your boss said thanks? :|
Good photo's but don't give your work away it doesn't do anybody but the paper any good.

I'm guessing the pro was a staff shooter though who's salaried....

That would be my guess too, and anyway I ain't going to be shaddowing the guy so his job is pretty safe :|
I can see both sides of this, I'd be flattered if asked something like this but if a pic is to be used on a commercial website/paper etc then I think they should pay.
I wonder how many now see this as a cheap way to get good pictures?

If it was in the actual printed paper then I would agree, but this is only on their website so I would think the audience will be limited. Plus I was flattered that they though they were good enough :dork:

Anyone who gives away pictures free to a commerical organisation needs their head read.
Any plumbers want to come around and fix my bog? I won't pay you, but you should be flattered I've asked.

Spot on Bish - Its basically trading on vanity and good will. Nothing more, nothing less.

Don't get me wrong - they should pay. I was just making the point that their staff shooter would still have got paid.

A slightly harsh analogy :D
I recently allowed the BBC to use one of pics for their "our pics" page which is a weekly spot where "We find some of the very best photos of Wales from all over the web", they don't look very hard if they chose mine ;)
http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/inpictures/sites/our_picks/pages/web.shtml
At the time I didn't think anything of giving them permission as it was for a feature where the whole idea was to display someones pic rather than use it in a commercial sense. Had it been for a news story I would now say no having thought about it more but I can see why people say yes.
BTW nice pics dbilsborough

thanks
I am happy just to give them away, as is my want. I enjoyed the concert, I had fun taking the pics, it cost me nowt other than the equipment cost and I already had that. I understand it might be a strange concept for some, but you don't need to live your life always chasing the next buck, you can get "rich" without earning a dime :)
And puddleduck, I will be more than happy to fix your "bog", I'm not a great plumber but I'll bring my sledgehammer along, no charge

If those pictures were better than the ones supplied by the regular photographer then he wouldnt have deserved to be paid anyway because, to be honest, I dont see those images as anything to write home about.

There was no need to take it like that, I would have thought images posted on a public forum were ripe for comment.

And your hugely constructive posting is certain to have improved his technique. You should bill him for the advice ;-)
