It has been confirmed that ABC1 is to close next month http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/broadcasting/a75298/disney-opts-to-axe-abc1.html
Even though it was endless repeats of the same show.
I am going to miss it ! :(
I can't say i'll be sorry to see it go. I've probably only watched about 10 minutes of it in the few years its been on air. Everytime I do flick through it just seems to endlessly repeat '8 simple rules'

That's not good. My family watches ABC1 a lot for Scrubs, Home Improvement and 8 simple rules. :(
Well that sucks but they didn't exactly try did they!

It wasn't a particularly imaginative channel. Endless repeats of Home Improvement is all I can recall!

I thought they tried... shoving Ghost Whisperer on, I thought they were going to start getting better shows and perhaps take Freeview past the 6pm close time :(
But it's a shame... whenever there's not much on or when I'm in the kitchen, it's straight to ABC1... where will I watch Less Than Perfect now?!?!?!
It was fun enough in the beginning...but they pretty much still show the same episodes of the same programmes 3 years on.
bah! i love home improvement so this is bad news for me - i'll miss it. (will have to resort to the dvds for my fix)
Hopefully it will be replaced by something much better like ITV4 +1
I must admit I've barely watched it since they've taken Sports Night off it but I'll miss it and thank it for bringing me that stunna of a show.
It was an OK channel, and it seems the main reason for pulling it was that they didn't get access to peak hours (6pm-12midnight) on freeview. Sad really, considering all the shopping channels that are on 24/7.

A shame but it's to be expected. They started off well showing Sports Night, Hope and Faith (before they put it on a constant repeat) and Commander in Chief I enjoyed watching before the channel became little more than a stream of Home Improvement, Hope and Faith and Less Than Perfect repeats. A wasted opportunity.

That is a shame but not surprising. They can show a season of Scrubs in just over a month but they just repeat it continously over and over. It took them nearly 18 months to go from season 1 to season 2. I still don't think they have got to season 3 yet.
OMFG this is my favorite channel! :(

Never worked out why it was only on Freeview in the day and not at night.
Never worked out why it was only on Freeview in the day and not at night.
They got the 1/2 daytime slot on mux A very cheaply. Is shared with TCM which is one of the pay channels on topuptv who obviously want to show the movies in the evening when the audience is there.
They did look at the slots on mux C & D which came up as these were bought up by ITV and C4 who could afford to pay silly money for their +1 channels etc, with minimal programme costs as they already have the shows.
Think the market price is now upto £10m a year for a Freeview channel so few can afford it if they also need to buy in shows as well, although most on ABC1 ones were their own so I guess cheap.
The shopping channels bought up their space when prices for Freeview slots were cheap. When these are up for renewal in 2008 to 2010 the demand and prices paid will be much higher, will be interesting to see if they are prepared to pay the price to keep them.

No great loss IMO. It was full of promise, showing Moonlighting and Sports Night. And then it got stuck showing endless reruns of Scrubs and Home Improvement.
Didn't they make the night schedule a pay channel or something?

What I found a little strange was when they were obviously over running, a programme would just stop at 6pm on Freeview before the end of it.
didn't even know it existed!
only watched it for Scrubs, won't miss it.

Why would you, when its also on Paramount 1, +1, 2, e4, e4+1, Sky One, Sky Two........

On Sky ABC1 was subscription only in the entertainment mix.
Read they went for this option as cheaper, Sky give a discount to the EPG and listing cost if you encrypt, also they said because of issues of the channel being seen outside UK (this they could have fixed by using the UK centred transponders like BBC and ITV(.
My dad won't be happy, this is his second favourite channel after "Movies 24". I'm not kidding

On Freeview it is just on E4, E4+1 and occssionally on Channel 4 (presumably 4+1 now as well). I won't miss Scrubs as I got fed up of ABC1 repeating season 1 over and over, I decided to get the DVD's.

i will miss this channel too as I quite enjoyed it when nothing else was on and that I have Freeview in the bedroom so when i used to get into bed after a night shift there was something easy on the brain to watch before going to sleep.

It's gone. :(
I thought it was only going off freeview, it's gone completely from the UK now :(
We regretfully announce that Walt Disney Television will no longer be transmitting abc1 on any of the UK TV platforms (Freeview, cable or satellite) after September 2007.

Bugger. Didn't realise this was happening and today it's gone. :(
Turns out it went early: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/broadcasting/a76429/disney-pulls-plug-on-abc1.html
Caught TiVo by surprise as it's still listing the channel.
Wasn't all that bad. Okay it's all repeats but it was something to put on in the background that didn't annoy the crap out of me. I can only say that about ABC1 (sometimes), UKGold, times when Sky One etc shows The Simsons, Futurama etc, and most of what's shown on the kids cartoon channels.
I bet it just didn't do well because it wasn't showing endless mindless garbage reality TV ****.

Rubbish content, rubbish picture quality and an on-screen logo so big it could be seen from space. Good riddance.

Rubbish picture quality? On the cable feed this was one of the best looking channels, may have had a lower powered signal on Freeview but on cable it put a lot of the other channels to shame.

Looked like arse on Freeview. Don’t have cable so it matters not a jot to me how good it looked on there.
I still miss it. During the hours when Loose Women, Look What Tat I've Found in My Attic and the like were on there was a decent option with abc1. 8 Simple Rules, Less Than Perfect, Scrubs and Sports Night were all entertaining.
