The forthcoming New Duran Duran Album has been announced.

'Red Carpet Massacre' is due to be released in Europe on 12th November 2007, with the US release the following day.

Two of the tracks recorded with/produced by Timbaland and Justin Timberlake (Falling Down & Nite Runner) are available to listen to at the official Duran Duran website (http://www.duranduran.com/main.html) - a 3rd track (Skin Divers) has also been 'leaked'.

Have to say, I was sceptical when I heard of these collaborations, but having listened to the tracks a few times, they are definite growers, and very catchy.

'Falling Down' is apparently going to be the first single from the album.

Roll on November!

Hmm, not bad, cheers for posting. The lyrics are as great as ever - of the cat/sat/mat variety - but as a modern production of Duran music, it ain't bad.

Is Andy Taylor still with 'em, or did he run off after rejoining a couple of years back?

Andy Taylor is gone isn't he, not a lot of chance of Warren coming back either after how he was treated (according to Steve Malin's books). New songs sound good, lyrics as you say of the usual quality but the production is sharp and the new single in particular is a pretty good tune.

Aye, Andy has gone, and doubt he'll be back again after the statement (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/6086558.stm) the band released when he left.

Dom Brown (http://www.dombrown.com/) is the new 'full time' guitartist, though he won't be an official 'member of the band'.

Cheers. That page says:

"A statement from the remaining members, Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes and John and Roger Taylor, said a "gulf" had developed between them which meant they could no longer work effectively together."

When I read that, I thought it said a guff had developed between them - that would be a good reason to kick someone out of the band, because they keep farting.

I recall seeing some live footage of the reformed band in London, and it seemed all Andy Taylor was interested in was showing off his buff muscles. He was holding that silly "look at my biceps" guitar-playing pose throughout.

Looks like this latest album is heading towards being a bit of a commercial wreck.

First single bombed at number 52 and the album looks like stuggling to hit the Top 30.

And the usually loyal Durannies don't even seem all that keen on it - lots of poor reviews on Amazon. And from what I've heard you can see exactly why Andy Taylor walked out on them.

Is the end really nigh for them now? Surely they can't come back a fourth time?!

heehee, have to say i quite like it, and am sure I would be classed as a 'loyal durannie'. I like that they do try different things on their albums and do not regurgitate the same album over and over.

The few online reviews I have read have been decent enough.

Anyway theres my tuppence! Ah well, am sure they will make plenty of money on tour.

I'm not really a fan of it and I just get so frustrated with them.

There was a huge amount of goodwill towards them at the 'classic lineup' comeback in 2004 but since then they apparently scrapped an album of 'classic sounding Duran' stuff in favour of working with Timbaland etc. Hence Andy Taylor walking out.

And they seem to have simply indulged themselves in more of the second rate 'dance/funk' style nonsense that ruined most of their post-86 albums (in my opinion ;)).

They were given a second chance with 'Ordinary World' in 93 and blew it with 'Thank You' and now they look like they may be about to do it again.

Wasn't keen on this album at all. I really enjoyed "Astronaut", but RCM was an electronica disaster. The only decent track was the instrumental, and the first single was a hideous mish-mash of high-pitched synth and high-pitched Le Bon wailing. Can't understand what they were thinking when they thought this would be a good idea.

Have you seen the sticker on the cover of the CD - it has Justin Timberlake's name all over it. "Including the single co-written by JT. Produced by JT" etc.

Why on earth would DD feel the need to shamelessly tag onto his coat tails in order to sell an album. Also possibly explains the mess that the album turned into.

It's karma

I hope Warren's having the last laugh :)

i imagine the record label felt the need to 'shamelessly' name drop....maybe fearing impending doom, such is the state of the current record industry.

but i still think its a very good album, with some of it more akin to their early 80's dancesque stuff than some of the more recent output.

but as i have said, i like when they rock and i like when they funk. its all worthy of a listen for me, and their albums are never predictable!

p.s. lets face it, Andy Taylor is no loss, Warren was an infinitely better guitarist, but I imagine those bridges are burnt.

When Duran Duran try and funk there's not a more embarrassing sight in music.
I still have cold sweats about their sly and the family stone cover at one of the summers charity gigs.

Stick to the pop boys.

RCM has charted at a rather meagre No 44.
Methinks they have a lot of work to do to rescue this one!

They're guesting on the X Factor next week though so they'll never have a better opportunity....

Same for me, even the poor Duran albums have always been listenable with at a least a few good tracks. I'm sure they could have easily followed Astronaut with a carbon copy and I guess most fans would have been satisfied with that.

On paper I shouldn't like RCM at all but I find it a glorious contrast to the majority of music I buy. Commercial failure is nothing new to Duran (remember Medazzaland didn't even get a UK release) and I guess they will plod on as usual in a variety of line ups and I will gladly buy their releases and enjoy them to the full :).

As someone who would rather chew her ears off than listen to Timbaland/Timberlake-type music I didn't think it was awful, and certainly not as bad as I've been led to expect by reviews and various comments on Popbitch and the like. However, it's certainly their worst since Thank You and I found it a bit of a chore - mind you I find a lot of albums heavy going these days thanks to be mastered too loud. I'd class it as inessential and somewhat charmless if anything.
