Hi, another stupid newbie question i'm afraid!

I bought a UV Filter for my D40 but can't work out how too fit it. Its 52mm as the size says on the lense, but do i need to unscrew something off the camera to fit it?

Also how can i clean the actual lense itself? I was told you shouldn't clean it as it has a coating, but there must be a cloth you can get to wipe it down?

Thanks!

You should just be able to screw it into the thread on the front of your lens...

Two pieces of kit to keep your lenses/camera clean.

Giottos rocket blower http://www.giottos.com/ [or a generic alternative] and a Lenspen of some sort http://www.lenspen.com/403/30/

I prefer a microfibre cloth over a lens pen, the cloth is so small it just traps dirt in there unless you replace it.

No probs - the filter should have a screw thread on it, probably on one side only, so you just remove your lens cap, and screw it in to the front of the lens. You can do this whilst the lens is attached to the camera.

Lenses can be cleaned using a lens cloth and/or blower, which you can pick up for a few pounds from your local camera shop. The only way they would remove the lens coating is if you used some kind of dodgy liquid cleaner in conjunction with the cloth, or something like that.

Any other questions, ask away!

n.b. one lens is called a lens, not a lense! The plural is lenses :) This can lead to confusing results when searching on the web, so it's worth knowing...

Perhaps the key point is that its best not to worry about dust etc.

The only time I'd clean a lens if it got finger prints on - a bit of dust never hurt anyone, or more to the point - a bit of dust will never ever show up in pictures.
