My camera is a 5.0 Mega Pixel Casio Exilm EX-Z55
My printer is a Canon Pixmania Ip4000

When I take Pictures i tend to use the "best shot" facility on the camera
With SIZE as 2560 x 1920 and Quality as Fine

When printing though I am not that happy with results
Using Kodak Premium Photo Paper - Ultra Glossy
Printing in 4 x 6 in

At first glance the print looks ok - esp from a foot away
But when you get close

(a) The definition is not there - text on clothing and signs looks blurred
(b) colors look a little too red
(c) Lines (very faint, very thin) can be seen running down the picture - as if there is a grain in the paper

How could I improve prints ?

You forgot to ask - is is me?

Not having a go, but you are just looking at your equipment.

Blur is usually a sign of missed focus, or user shake.

If colours look too red, try turning down your saturation.

a) You
b) Your failure to calibrate your camera, monitor and printer correctly.
c) Probably a blocked nozzle on the printer

I use a Canon IP6600 and I think i recall using Kodak paper and it was absolute gash, muted, muddy colours and lack of definition.

I was surprised because, well, it's Kodak, but my HP and Canon paper is absolutely fine.

I used Kodak paper once ... I bought 2 packs.

The results were so dire I returned the unopened pack and tried to return the opened pack (to Dixons this was). I was told I could not return the opened pack which I proceeded to chuck in the bin under the cashier's desk

To be fair, I did try the unused pack again and this time I set my printer to the settings I found for my specific HP printer from the HP site and the print did look better :suspect:

The banding may be the media setting on the printer - under printer preferences you should be able to tell the printer what paper type you are using - you should also be able to set the print quality I.e photo text best photo etc.

Not sure on your printer model but you can on a lot of them including my last 2 a canon and an epson.,

I got dreadful prints from my Sony SLR using HP colour settings. Changing the colour profile to ADOBE fixed it 100%!
