Pioneer DV-340 Query

I got a Pioneer DV-340 for Xmas. It is a Multi Region model and I have to change the regions manually. Is this correct or should it change automatically?

I think it largely depends on the modification. I got a 343 (black version) from Richer Sounds and it changes automatically.

If you've got any info on who did the mod it may be worth calling them to find out.
