Ok so Today is the day I can get a upgrade/renewal on my Flext 35 contract (with 25% off), so i log on and wonder what can I get if it works out too expensive for the T-Mobile Vario MDA III (the HTC Kaiser/tytn 2).

So i first look at the cost of the T-Mobile Vario MDA III (without Co-Pilot) if I were to start a new contract on Flext 35 and it works out at £69.99.

Then I check the cost it would to renew my contract and get the exact same and boy was I shocked to find that the price would be £289.99.

Yup I save about £9 a month with my discount and if i were to run that for 18 months i'd save £162, whereas the phone is £220 more (on renewal) than if I started a new contract.

the Nokia n95 is £260 more on renewal than taking a new contract.

Has anyone else experienced this?

If i were to try and get through to their retentions team would I get a better deal? Because i'm happy with the service, just not their commitment to keeping customers and i'm worried that i'll ask for my migration code (or whatever you call it) and they'll just say "No problem sir, here it is, don't let the door hit you on the way out", because i'm not a heavy user (I often have over £100 of my flext allowance left over each month).

Also if i was to ask for my code, could I back out of cancelling my contract or would it be a case of me having to "lay in the bed I made"?

Thanks in advance for any advice or replies.

As far as I know if you don't pass the PAC code to another provider within a certain period of time it expires and your current provider retains ownership/control of the number. I'm not aware of any requirement to actually follow up a request for a PAC with actually leaving.

Tmobile retentions rang me at around the time I could renew. I was on a 100m/100txt £25 a month contract, I was not a heavy user and rarely went over my allowance.
They offered me the flext25 with 25% off and a free Compact 3. New phone, more minutes/texts and less per month!

Damn, I paid £70 for my Vario II only a few months ago. I was hoping the III would be an age away and much more expensive :(

Where are you seeing the Vario III (Kaiser), I was talking to our large business account manager in the T-Mobile HQ at Hatfield just the other day and they were still claiming not to know about it and denying it was imminent. I'm ready to order about 50 of them when they get the damn things available.

Sorry I'm so used to searching for info on the Kaiser that I always type 3 "I's" instead of two.

All info is about specific pricing is about the Vario II

Is there any chance I could get an MDA II on T-mobile as a free upgrade?

I'm just over my 18 months contract and I've had half-price line rental for the last 6 months so not too bad a deal. Now it's time for a proper PDA phone though :-)

Damn - just realised the OP is effectivly asking the same question!

Nah i'm willing to pay for the phone, just not over £200 more than a new customer would have to pay.

if you are renewing check the new terms of the flext contracts. have been some changes there.

I thought they only changed the t&cs on the 12 month one, anything drastic been changed?

both have in certain ways. the 12 month ones have less allowance but there has also been changes to the minimum charge(20p now) and voicemail is now not included in allowance.

you'll generally find that when it comes to upgrades there are no breaks for existing users. All the deals are for the new users only. I remember having this conversation once and was advised to cancel my contract and start a new one if I wanted the offer.

Nowadays it's all about the numbers of new signups, and they really don't care about existing customers.

I've had them price match the web twice now, just give them a call and say you're leaving. Been with them nearly 10 years now and never had a problem getting the phone I want.

Having loads of your allowance left each month will probably help matters, not hinder them - you're paying for it but not using it. That's always been my situation too.
