It is a good TV but people just assume it is crap because it is made by another company which isn't unusual anyway.

Can it be bought in store?

Not saying it's necessarily crap, just that this is (or was as I think they're now discontinued) from Sony's budget range which are in fact rebadged Bekos. Given that Beko is at the low end of electrical manufacturers this is nothing like the bargain it would be if it was from the S, V or W ranges - which are actually Sony-made products.

I don't believe it is a rebaged Beko as the specs are too high compared to what Beko TV's usually are (doesn't mean they don't make them). It doesn't even look like a Beko. It looks like Sony just built by other people.

well i have a beko 28" crt widescreen tv,and when you play a ntsc disc with macrovision the top of the picture bends,it is most annoying, doesnt happen with pal discs though.

Well obviously you'll believe what you want to believe, but it looks much more like something Beko would do with its cheap silver finish and curved styling below the screen. The pukka Sony range is black and has the high-end styled cases you'd expect from the brand.

You might like to check out the reviews of the 'Sony' PVR that is another Beko effort:
After 3 days with the Sony Freeview PVR we just couldn't believe that this is a Sony product, sure it has the badge (and the price tag) but that's about all that is Sony. With a little research we found that this model is in fact a rebadged (Beko) Digifusion DVR (the FVRT200)and not made by Sony at all!

The bargain here seems mainly to be getting a Beko TV with a posh name to impress your pals :(

Perhaps you should buy one and see the styling and more importantly its PQ and features for 'yourself', then think about posting.

I got to say I'm in agreement with Long Dick. It really appears to me that brand snobbery demands that people have a "Sony" in their lounge, which is quite comical when this is a Turkish "built for Sony" model that almost certainly doesn't adhere to the build quality and values of a true Japanese Sony product..........but at least you'd have that all important badge on your TV!

Well obviously I wouldn't buy one for the reasons I've given.

I think it's only reasonable to point out that this series is not a Sony-made product before people decide to splash their cash. IMO it's worth considering spending just a little more on a discounted higher series Sony, Toshiba, LG or Samsung.

That's the idea of having a Bargain forum - so people can assess if a price cut item is worth it to them, rather than just accept it at face value. Bit obvious isn't it

My Sony 32" CRT does this, but only when playing NTSC discs through my Toshiba DVD player. PAL discs are fine; NTSC discs are fine when played through Xbox, Xbox 360 and cheapie Alba DVD player.

If anyone (other than me) ordered one of these from Woolies, can you confirm whether your order status is still showing "awaiting security check"?

I need to order a new TV stand to go with it, but don't want to do that until I know its definitely coming :)

--------

Update: Just received a response to an earlier enquiry to Woolies. They say that every order is being scrutinised to make sure nobody is placing multiple-orders (it was strictly one per customer), but that they have enough stock to fullfill all orders placed

If it is a beko then £400 is a bit steep I reckon. You can get Mirai or Hannspree 32" ers for £300 and they have 2/3 yr warranties and glowing reviews

just my tuppence worth

Where from? The cheapest 32" with built in freeview I can find is £350 with delivery, and that's a digihome, with a 1 year RTB warranty.

All of this about brand names etc, its like B+O yse phillips tubes for there crt tvs....

On another note is the 32" lcs from big pockets still recommended as im in the market for one also.....But i do physically like the 37" techwood from woolies. Build quality looks very good but obviously they dont have any hd sources to test it with unfortunately
